DADS (2020): The Thing I Liked…

Dads (2020), Apple TV+

Watching Dads, Bryce Dallas Howard’s Fathers Day documentary succeeded at putting a smile on my face, as predicted. An exploratory look at contemporary fatherhood that celebrates good fathers, I enjoyed listening to all the dads; many famous and some less so as they shared their fears, hopes and approaches to fatherhood in the modern-day.

Dads is a celebration of the good fathers out there; a documentary touches on the fundamentals of what makes a good father, regardless of society’s rigid expectations about a father’s role.

Dads was never meant o be the most thorough study of fatherhood. It’s a film about ‘friends’ sharing their experiences of fatherhood, what inspired their approach to it and what they hope to achieve.

Ultimately, Howard’s film will be a different experience for each person dependant on their relationship with their father. What you’ll realise by the end, if not sooner is this, great dads are a massive gift, regardless of whether they’re yours or someone else’s.

Kenan Thompson, Jimmy Kimmel, Patton Oswalt, Judd Apatow, Will Smith, Hasan Minhaj and Ken Jeong are among the famous fathers featured.

Also featuring Dallas Howard’s own father, director Ron Howard, additional features include famous funnymen including Jimmy Kimmel, Will Smith, Jimmy Fallon, Neil Patrick Harris…

I get the feeling I’m going to be happy to spend some time simply watching fathers putting smiles on their children’s faces, and vice versa. Anything else will very likely just be a bonus.

PAVAROTTI (2019): New Trailer For Ron howard Directed Luciano Pavarotti Documentary…

Pavarotti (2019), Madman Films
Pavarotti (2019), Madman Films

Directed by Ron Howard, Pavarotti is a close look at the life and voice of the the man who brought opera to the people, legendary opera singer Luciano Pavarotti.

Pavarotti promises intimate interviews, history-making performances and never-before-seen footage…

I’m in because even though I’m not an avid listener of opera music, Luciano Pavarotti is the only opera singer I can immediately name. And considering that all I really knew about him besides his occupation and Princess Diana being a big fan is that he was Italian. I actually can’t wait to see exactly what else I can learn – and very likely love about the man.

Princess Diana, Bono, Spike Lee, Phil Donahue, Stevie Wonder, Nelson Mandela, José Carreras and Kofi Annan are among those featured in some of the archival footage.

Pavarotti Release Dates: June 7th, 2019 (US); July 15th, 2019 (UK)…

THE BEATLES – EIGHT DAYS A WEEK – THE TOURING YEARS: New Trailer For The Beatles Documentary

The Beatles: Eight Days A Week - The Touring Years (2016), George Harrison, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr
The Beatles: Eight Days A Week – The Touring Years (2016), George Harrison, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr

Ron Howard is the director of the brand new The Beatles documentary, The Beatles – Eight Days A Week,  The Touring Years. The film is comprised of  found footage featuring music, interviews and stories about their 250 concerts from 1963 to 1966…

I’ve never really listened to a Beatles record on account of their seemingly slow rock style not being one of my  favourite genres. However, they were undoubtedly a phenomenon so I’m a little bit curious. I also recently re-watched and enjoyed Nowhere Boy (2009), the story of  John Lennon’s adolescence featuring a bnotable performance by Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

I’m looking forward to witnessing the madness of ‘Beatle mania’ and generally being a little more enlightened.

The Beatles – Eight Days A Week – The Touring Years Release Dates:  September 15th, 2016 (UK, GER, FR…); 2016, (US)…

IN THE HEART OF THE SEA (2015): New Trailer From Chris Hemsworth & Cillian Murphy

In The Heart Of The Sea (2015), Chris Hemsworth
In The Heart Of The Sea (2015), Chris Hemsworth

Starring Chris Hemsworth, Cillian Murphy and Ben Whishaw, In The heart of The Sea tells the story of the the 1820 sinking of Whaleship Essex in the pacific Ocean…

In The heart Of The Sea (2015) Trailer

Directed by Ron Howard and based on the book by Nathaniel Philbrick, the thing that excites me most about this movie is the special effects. Whales are beautiful, majestic creatures and loving them as I do, I don’t know how easily I’ll be able to look at the whale as the ‘bad guy.’ On second thought, I’m thinking quite easily if I put myself in the place of the crew whose ship just sunk.

In the event that after seeing the In The heart of The Sea trailer, you thought the film was based on a different famous book, namely  Moby Dick by Herman Melville, you’re not alone. For it is the same 1820 event that inspired Melville to write his famous story, first published in 1851.

I’m quite sure I’ll still love whales after watching In The Heart Of The Sea, how ever ‘bad’ this one particular whale may be.

Release Date (s): December 11th, 2015 (US), December 26th, 2015 (UK)…
