In Deadpool 2, Ryan Reynolds is back as what I’m sure is his most widely loved character; Deadpool, a.k.a Wade Wilson.
There’s more action, more comedy, more of that good and lovable titular wisecracking to be expected, starting with this fun tease of a trailer.
The intro to this trailer is good, of course, but that action, that 10 seconds of beautiful action, is just superb. I can’t wait to see it all fit into place.
The Hitman’s Bodyguard (2017), Samuel L. Jackson, Ryan Reynolds
I had a good time with The Hitman’s Bodyguard, the Patrick Hughes-directed action/comedy in which Ryan Reynolds stars as the bodyguard to Samuel L. Jackson’s Hitman, who needs to be safely delivered to testify in court.
A lot of the fun in this movie is thanks to the dialogue and action sequences. It ended up not really mattering how ridiculous and unbelievable some of the action seemed, let alone the forced romance that resulted in awkward dialogue and questionable chemistry between Reynolds and his love interest (Elodie Yung). The reason why The Hitman’s Bodyguard remains watchable is because the most important chemistry, that between Jackson and Reynolds is near enough faultless.
The number of times the word m********* flew out of Jackson’s mouth didn’t bother me at all. After all, no one really delivers that word quite the way he does. There’s also the beautiful visuals of London, England and Amsterdam in the summertime to enjoy.
The truth is, you’re not going to be able to completely suspend your disbelief as you watch this movie, but a good time, you shall have. Especially if you’re already a fan of Jackson and Reynolds individually. I haven’t even properly stated how fun Salma Hayek and Gary Oldman’s characters are.
The Hitman’s Bodyguard (2017), Samuel L. Jackson, Ryan Reynolds
In The Hitman’s Bodyguard, Ryan Reynolds is the latter and Samuel L. Jackson, the former. The bodyguard and hitman are not quite getting along.
Still, they must learn to work together because one of them has to testify at the International Court of Justice.
I don’t know if Reynolds and Jackson have been in a movie together before, but I’m certainly a fan of their chemistry. I’m also getting something of a The Other Guys (2010) vibe – and I’m sure that’s a good thing.
Starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Rebecca Ferguson, Ryan Reynolds and Hiroyuki Sanada, Life is the new Daniel Espinosa-directed sci-fi thriller about the discovery of life on Mars.
This one firmly lands in the top three of my favourite trailers of 2016. I officially cannot wait to see this movie.
Anyone else wondering what on Mars that scientist was thinking sticking his finger in there? Has he not watched any other sci-fi movies about life in outer space?
Deadpool (2016), Stefan Kapicic, Ryan Reynolds, Brianna Hildebrand
I’ve loved Deadpool’s star, Ryan Reynolds’s sense of humour and comic timing ever since his television sitcom days in Two Guys, A Girl & A Pizza Place (1998-2001). Fast forward to me watching the first Deadpool trailer in 2015, and there I was with reason to be excited.
Generally speaking, my enthusiasm for the superhero genre has been decreasing steadily in recent years. In other words, for me to get excited about another new superhero franchise, it’d better be refreshingly different somehow.
Besides the movie’s much-spoken-about uncensored expletives, repeated breaking of the ‘fourth wall’ and the humorous dialogue, there isn’t really much else about Deadpool that’s particularly new when compared to the average superhero movie. Not to say that I didn’t have a good time, mind you – because those cool action sequences were a highlight. Overall, I found director Tim Miller’s movie adequately entertaining.
Deadpool (2016), Ed Skrein
One thing I did find impossible not to notice as I watched Deadpool is the general attractiveness of the cast. Especially the three main characters played by Reynolds, Morena Baccarin and Ed Skrein (Ajax). Considering the fact that Reynolds spends a good amount of the movie’s running time in prosthetics that aren’t particularly easy on the eyes, perhaps pressure was felt by the filmmakers to redress the balance. Maybe, indeed.
Did anyone else notice how much Ed Skein resembles a rather beefed-up version of Nicholas Hoult?
Deadpool is a fun ride. Watch it for the humour, action, etc.
