LOKI (2021): New Trailer Starring Tom Hiddleston, Owen Wilson, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Sophia Di Martino…

Is Loki the Marvel Studios/Avengers spin-off series I’m most excited about? Yes! And full disclosure, as a non-reader of comic books, I have no idea about what the synopsis could be, since Marvel hasn’t revealed much and I recall nothing of the last one or two Thor movies. Because I haven’t seen them… yet.

Still, who needs a synopsis anyway, when Tom Hiddleston is reprising his role as the favourite villain of many movie fans?

The excellent cast includes Sophia Di Martino, Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Owen Wilson.

How much fun is this trailer? So much fun that it has me ready to place Loki at the currently short list of recent Avengers spin-off shows. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is in second place and unfortunately, last has to be WandaVision, for reasons outlined in the linked post

Richard E. Grant, Lucius Baston, Chris Brewster, Cailey Fleming, Isabelle Fretheim, Michael Rose, Aaron Beelner and Reese Giles also star.

Loki Release Dates: June 11th, 2021 (US), Disney+

Tom Hiddleston, Sophia Di Martino, Richard E. Grant and Owen Wilson are the stars of new Marvel Entertainment/Disney+ series Loki.

Hello, beautiful trailer!

I have no idea why they’ve chosen to call this a ‘clip;’ especially considering the editing. Anyway, what a magnetic villainous presence Hiddleston conveys. I’m excited to see his Loki being as simultaneously cool and bad, as only the very best villains can be.

Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Lucius Baston, Chris Brewster, Cailey Fleming, Isabelle Fretheim, Michael Rose, Aaron Beelner and Reese Giles also star.

EVERYBODY’S TALKING ABOUT JAMIE (2021): New Trailer From Sharon horgan, Max Harwood, Lauren Patel, Richard E. Grant…

Everybody's Talking About Jamie (2021), Max Harwood, 20th Century Studios
Everybody’s Talking About Jamie (2021), Max Harwood, 20th Century Studios

Everybody’s Talking About Jamie is a film adaptation of the drama/musical of the same name.

Starring Max Harwood, Lauren Patel, Richard E. Grant, Sarah Lancashire, and directed by Jonathan Butterell; it’s the story of a teenage boy from Sheffield, England who wants to be a drag queen.

I love it when people get to be precisely themselves and succeed regardless of other people’s ideas of who they ought to be. Such predicaments always take me back to one of my favourite quotes of all time. A quote by writer/feminist Audre Lorde: ‘If I didn’t define myself for myself, I would be crunched into other people’s fantasies for me and eaten alive.

I’m looking forward to seeing Jamie win. Also, I recently finished watching Catastrophe, a very well written comedy series written by and starring Rob Delaney and Sharon Horgan. The latter being the teacher character in this trailer. Catastrophe is a great show that turned me into a life long fan of Horgan. I’d see Everybody’s Talking About Jamie anyway. Now I’m that little bit more excited because Horgan’s in it, even though her character isn’t exactly likeable.

Shobna Gulati, Shameem Ahmad, Ralph Ineson, Samuel Bottomley, Ramzan Miah, Zane Alsaroori, Gareth Joyner, Alex Anstey, Daniel Wallace and Dannie Pye also star.

CAN YOU EVER FORGIVE ME? (2018): New Trailer From Melissa McCarthy, Dolly Wells, Richard E. Grant…

Can You Ever Forgive Me? (2018), Melissa McCarthy
Can You Ever Forgive Me? (2018), Melissa McCarthy

Directed by Marielle Heller; starring Melissa McCarthy, Dolly Wells and Richard E. Grant, Can You Ever Forgive Me? is based on the true story of Lee Israel.

Israel was a celebrity biographer whose writing fell out of step with current tastes. And so Israel turned her art form to deception…

There’s no doubt in my mind that McCarthy’s performance will prove notable. I just hope that the story’s execution is adequately engaging overall. I’d be even more confident if I didn’t feel as though this trailer had revealed more than it probably needed to.

Also, knowing that ‘acting queen’ Julianne Moore dropped out of playing McCarthy’s role is not a thing that results in increased confidence. Nevertheless, all could still turn out great because as well as being a biography / drama, Can You Ever forgive Me? is also a comedy.

Jennifer Westfeldt, Joanna Adler, Julie Ann Emery, Alice Kremelberg and Anna Deavere Smith also star.

THE NUTCRACKER & THE FOUR REALMS (2018): New Trailer From Helen Mirren, Keira Knightley, Morgan Freeman, Mackenzie Foy…

The Nutcracker And The Four Realms tells the story of a young girl who is transported into a magical world of gingerbread soldiers and an army of mice.

Directed by Lasse Hallström and Joe Johnston; Helen Mirren, Keira Knightley, Morgan Freeman and Mackenzie Foy are among the key cast.

I couldn’t help but think of Alice In Wonderland as this trailer played. I’ve also just realised that I don’t think my childhood featured a moment when I learnt about The Nutcracker story. In which case I look forward to being surprised with it. it could also be that my memory is just bad.

Lastly, I think I may want that purple dress!

The Nutcracker and the Four Realms release Dates: October 26th, 2018 (uk); November 2nd, 2018 (US)…

THE HITMAN’S BODYGUARD (2017): The Things I Liked…

The Hitman's Bodyguard (2017), Samuel L. Jackson, Ryan Reynolds
The Hitman’s Bodyguard (2017), Samuel L. Jackson, Ryan Reynolds

I had a good time with The Hitman’s Bodyguard, the Patrick Hughes directed action/comedy in which Ryan Reynolds stars as the bodyguard to Samuel L. Jackson’s Hitman who needs to be safely delivered to testify in court.

A lot of the fun in this movie is thanks to the dialogue and action sequences. It ended up not really mattering how ridiculous and unbelievable some of the action seemed, let alone the forced romance that resulted in awkward dialogue and questionable chemistry between Reynolds and his love interest (Elodie Yung). The reason why The Hitman’s Bodyguard remains watchable is because the most important chemistry, that between Jackson and Reynolds is near enough faultless.

The number of times the word m********* flew out of Jackson’s mouth didn’t bother me at all. After all, no one really delivers that word quite the way he does. There’s also the beautiful visuals of London, England and Amsterdam in the summertime to enjoy.

The truth is, you’re not going to be able to completely suspend your disbelief as you watch this movie, But, a good time, you shall have. Especially if you’re already a fan of Jackson and Reynolds individually. I haven’t even mentioned how fun Salma Hayek and Gary Oldman’s characters are to watch.

THEIR FINEST (2017): New Trailer From Sam Claflin, Gemma Aterton, Bill Nighy…

Their Finest (2017), Sam Claflin, Gemma Aterton
Their Finest (2017), Sam Claflin, Gemma Aterton

Sam Claflin, Gemma Aterton and Bill Nighy are the stars of Their Finest, a Lone Schefig directed drama / comedy / romance set during World War II. The story focuses on a British film crew tasked with making a propaganda film after the Blitzkrieg to help boost morale…

I’ll be tuning in for the comedy and to witness the extent of the sexism of those times. I’m not quite in the mood for the romance just now, no doubt that’s going to change, I’m certain of it.

Their Finest Release Dates: March 24th, 2017 (US); April 21st, 2017 (UK)…
