JOJO RABBIT (2019): The Things I Liked…

Jojo Rabbit, a comedy / drama about a young boy in Hitler’s army who finds out that his mother is hiding a Jewish girl in their home is a movie I found more and more impressive as it played.

Director and co-writer Taika Waititi really did a great job of bringing humour to one of history’s darkest times. Jojo Rabbit is as funny and smart as others have been saying. I appreciate the way it reminds us of just how easily a young mind can be shaped; while also showing us that young minds are smart enough to figure things out for themselves, given the right circumstances.

I watched Waititi’s movie mainly because of the very intriguing and clever premise, the comedy categorisation, the fact that everyone told me to and the brilliant cast. A talent list that includes Scarlett Johansson, Waititi himself and Sam Rockwell, to name just a few.

Besides the cleverness and notable performances, the colours and beautiful imagery will stay with me when I think of Jojo Rabbit. As will the super cute and talented young actors, Roman Griffin Davis and Archie Yates. There’s also the way Jojo Rabbit reminds me of another brilliant World War 2 drama / comedy. Namely Roberto Benigni’s Life Is Beautiful (1997).

Watch Jojo Rabbit because it’s good – and see exactly why Waititi deserved the win for 2020’s Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar.

FREE GUY (2020): New trailer From Ryan Reynolds, Jodie Comer, Taika Waititi, Lil Rel Howery…

Free Guy (2020), Jodie Comer, Ryan Reynolds, 20th Century Fox

Free Guy stars Ryan Reynolds as a bank teller who realises that he’s actually an NPC (Non Player Character) inside a brutal, open world video game.

Directed by Shawn Levy, additional key cast includes Jodie Comer, Taika Waititi, Lil Rel Howery, Utkarsh Ambudkar and Joe Keery.

By this point I think that Reynolds must be the busiest actor right now, no? Right away I like the Howrey / Reynolds dynamic. I’m also curious about how well the the Reynolds / Coma chemistry will work.

I personally don’t play video games. As such, I had to look up the meaning of NPC but the premise is interesting and I like Reynolds so I’m definitely watching.

Britne Oldford, Owen Burke, Aaron W Reed, Leah Procito, Jamaal Burcher and Kenneth Israel also star.

Read my spoiler-free movie review of Jojo rabbit (2019).

Directed and co-written by Taika Waititi, JoJo Rabbit is a new comedy about a young boy in Hitler’s army who finds out that his mother is hiding a Jewish girl in their home.

Key cast includes Waititi, Sam Rockwell, Scarlett Johansson, Rebel Wilson, Alfie Allen…

My question is, how amusing will this satire be considering the time period and subject matter? There’s perhaps extra hope that the result will be good considering all the big names involved. This is my hope.

Stephen Merchant, Roman Griffin Davis, Thomasin McKenzie, Sitara Attaie, Victoria Hogan, Brian Caspe and Luke Brandon Field also star.

JoJo Rabbit Release Dates: October 18th, 2019 (US), January 3rd, 2020 (UK)…

THOR – RAGNAROK (2017): New Trailer From Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Cate Blanchett, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba…

Thor Ragnarok (2017), Tom Hiddleston

Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Cate Blanchett, Tom Hiddleston and Idris Elba are back for the next Thor movie instalment. Directed by Taika Waititi, in Thor – Ragnarok,  Thor, the hammer wielding god of thunder, lightning, storms, etcetera, must face the Incredible Hulk in a gladiator match and save his people from the ruthless Hela (Blanchett)…

I haven’t watched any Thor Movie’s since Hemsworth’s first because Thor generally isn’t my favourite Marvel superhero. However, this undeniably cool new  trailer may just have pulled me right back in. There’s also another reason… my favourite acting queen! Cate Blanchett, of course.

Thor  – Ragnarok Release Dates: October 27th, 2017 (UK) November 3rd, 2017 (US)…

Jamie Alexander and Tessa Thompson also star.
