Directed and co-written by Peter Berg, The Mosquito Bowl is the latest biographical/drama/sport film about four star college footballers who join the Marines following Pearl Harbor.

Starring Nicholas Galitzine, Bill Skarsgård, Peter Berg and Ray Nicholson, the young men take part in a historic football game before going on to face the Battle of Okinawa.

I’m not the most avid watcher of war films, but the heartbreak and tragedy in this one have my attention, particularly the stories of all the young people whose lives were greatly altered because war called.

I’m interested in how this story captures the emotional turmoil. There are also the inevitable comparisons to The Hurt Locker (still my favourite war film).

Very likely not an easy watch, but does the story have you curious?
