The latest Tom Cruise movie American Made is a 1980s set story about a pilot who lands 2 jobs; one for the CIA and the other as a drug runner in the south.
Directed by Doug Liman, Domhnall Gleeson, Caleb Landry Jones and Jesse Plemons also star.
I’m tuning in because this trailer looks good and I’m excited to see Cruise play a man of such questionable character.
I also want to watch because it’s Tom Cruise, a.k.a great actor and excellent talk show host guest, especially on The Graham Norton Show. I’m also a massive Graham Norton fan. I digress.

The controversies that surround the church of scientology have been covered quite thoroughly at this point. As someone who’s relatively familiar with the religion’s ‘cultish’ reputation and practices, the news of a new documentary about the infamous church got my attention.
My hope was that documentary film maker Louis Theroux’s investigations into the church would result in a reasonable amount of new information. In truth, very little of what’s revealed in My Scientology Movie is new.
Unsurprisingly, the church of scientology denied all kinds of access to Theroux and his documentary team. As such, the bulk of what we get to see in My Scientology Movie is conversations between Theroux and ex-members of the church, including Marty Rathbun, Jeff Hawkins and Tom De Vocht. There’s also archive footage and re-enactments based on Rathbun’s experiences while inside the church.

I’m disappointed with My Scientology Movie. Nevertheless, I did find myself somewhat entertained at times; largely thanks to the dialogue between Theroux and ‘scientology spokesperson’ Catherine Fraser. There’s also the peculiar dynamic between Theroux and Marty Rathbun, something that will surely bring a smile or two to your face, should you choose to watch.
Those who’ll get the most out of this documentary will likely be people who don’t already know much about scientology and how the church operates. For the rest of us, there’s boredom and some humour.

Based on the teaser trailer, it looks as though Catherine mistook her opponent for a regular curious Joe; someone who would cower away in the face of her intimidation tactics.
‘Not today, Catherine. Not today!‘ – Probably what I imagine that Mr Theroux was thinking while outwardly appearing as calm as can be.

In Jack Reacher – Never Go Back, Tom Cruise returns as the highly capable homicide investigator, Jack Reacher – except this time he’s the accused.
I’m still yet to watch the original movie, Jack Reacher (2012) – though clearly, it’s time I did. Even more so since I love badass move scenes like the one with the car window. The last time I got excited about an impressive and swift movie magic manoeuvre was thanks to Denzel Washington’s The Equalizer (2014).
I’ll be tuning in because of Tom Cruise and his badass action man ways. Still, it’s probably good to mention that Cobie Smulders, Robert Knepper and Aldis Hodge also star,
