BARBIE (2023): New Trailer From Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Will Farrel, Issa Rae, Ncuti Gatwa, Emma Mackey, Kingsley Ben-Adir…

Read my spoiler-free movie review of  Barbie (2023).

An unexpected existential crisis is at the heart of director Greta Gerwig’s long-awaited Barbie movie.

Set in a perfect world with perfect beings as neighbours, Gerwig’s film is a comedy/adventure/fantasy that stars Margot Robbie as the world’s most popular doll, along with Ryan Gosling in the role of Ken, Barbie’s best male friend.

I must admit that I’m someone for whom Barbie wasn’t a favourite toy. As such I was unsure I’d be interested in a movie about this particular pink-loving super popular children’s toy. Especially since the initial teaser trailer gave zero hints about the quite compelling core premise of Gerwig’s film.

Now, I find myself looking forward to seeing Barbie’s awakening and watching Robbie do her thing, as only she can. There’s also Will Ferrell’s guaranteed to be fun turn as the CEO of Barbie manufacturer, Mattel.

I’m curious, are you ruling out the potential of developing a newfound appreciation for pink after seeing this movie? I’m certainly not. After all, we all know to never say never, right?

Ncuti Gatwa, Emma Mackey, Ariana Greenblat, Helen Mirren, John Cena, Michael Cera, Simu Liu, Kate McKinnon, America Ferrera, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Alexandra Shipp, Rhea Perlman, Ritu Arya, Nicola Coughlan, Hari Nef, and Dua Lipa also star.

Barbie Release Dates: July 21st, 2023 (US & UK)…

Happy Film Loving

  1. Fashion is about to get even pinker if it isn’t already. 🩷💕 💞 💓 💗 💖 💘 💝

      1. I haven’t heard about a stand-alone store just yet, but I’ve noticed that a few brands have capitalised on the Barbie release. I believe that official adult-sized Barbie merchandise is also available

    1. Good question. I think as long as I sleep really well the night before, I may be able to make it through both. Right now I’m still leaning towards Oppenheimer first because it probably requires the most focus, like mathematics classes always being in the morning in my school experience. 🤓

  2. When I saw who is behind the director’s wheel I knew this is going to be an interesting take on the Barbie universe. Also, in this case I’m sold on Robbie, who seems like a perfect fit. The latest trailer shows this is not as lighthearted as it would seem by the subject matter as it deals with existential questions and self realization.
My sister liked Barbies and I remember she got a few fake ones before we could afford a real one. I played with LEGOs and of course loved The LEGO Movie. 😉

    1. Excellent! Nostalgia really is the thing at the moment. As per my recent review, even as a non-Barbie-superfan, I had fun watching the story unfold.

Everyone was clearly right to believe in a good result because of the film-making team involved. I’m now looking forward to seeing it again at home, certainly, multiple times. 😊🩷🩷🩷🩷

  3. Been looking forward to this one for ages! And the Just Ken music video they released this morning 🙂 I won’t accept an Oscars without Gosling singing it.

    1. I deliberately chose to ignore the Ken music video because I wanted to experience it within the film. Now that I’ve seen it, it’s one of my favourite moments. My fingers are crossed thatBarboie gets all the accolades it deserves.

  4. I was never one for Barbie either, but as soon as I realised it was Greta Gerwig I’ve been looking forward to this!

  5. I’m so excited.. I see it tomorrow at 11am.. And it’s in what we call The Valley which is going to be blazing hot.. but I don’t care.. I’m wearing my pink leather jacket and a black&white design pantsuit.. I’m going BARBIE!! ahahahahhaha

    1. Wow! You clearly did it the right way. I didn’t end up wearing pink on the day, but I enjoyed watching those who did having a great time.

Also, I’m expecting a sequel at some point, especially considering what a huge success the film has proven to be.

  6. I grew up playing with G. I. Joes’ & Tonka Trucks’, so we male kids despised the whole Barbie & Ken genre.

But, as a father with a daughter, I bought several Barbies for her to play with, and one that I’ve kept sealed in its original packaging for posterity.

So, my daughter has several, colector Barbies, along with those Bennie Babies, which has a movie premiering on Apple steraming platform.

I’m intrigued to see the film, but it will be seen after the latest Misson Impossible and Oppenheimer movies.

    1. I say follow your intrigue. It’s quite fun as per my recent review, and I hope you enjoy it when you do.

Also, I think that watching Barbie after the more serious films is a good idea. I did the thing of watching both Oppenheimer and Barbie on the same day and ‘m glad I followed the same rule. Enjoy! 🙂
