Jessica Chastain, Josh Charles, Anne Hathaway and Anders Danielsen Lie are the stars of new drama/thriller Mother’s Instinct.
Directed by Benoît Delhomme, at the centre of the story is a tragic accident that leads to guilt, suspicion and paranoia between two women who were once the best of friends.
Based on the title alone, I’m going to guess that Chastain’s character is right. I think that Hathatway’s Celine is the grief-stricken mother who’s lost her mind.
I say all this of course, as someone who has never watched the French film (Derrière la haine (2018) by Barbara Abel, on which both films are based. I’m excited to watch two wonderful actors continually raise each other’s game with every word and look they utter. Not that either of their games needed raising, mind you.
Are you looking forward to a promising psychological thriller, one of a few among the many blockbusters due to come our way this year?
Caroline Lagerfelt, Alexander Blaise, Keeley Miller, Steve Routman, Lauren Yaffe and Baylen D. Bielitz also star.

Looks like such great performances by all of them.
Amen! Anne has that super crazy look in her eyes. It should be fun, even though it looks quite emotional too.
this looks so amazing, can’t wait!
It sure does. 🤓 I’m excited to see these talented ladies give their all.
I saw a clip of this recently and the subject matter stops me from wanting to see it. I still haven’t forgiven Chastain for her depiction of Tammy Faye Baker in “The Eyes of Tammy Faye”
It is quite a dark topic, I agree. Yet I remain intrigued because it’s Hathaway & Chastain. Also, I find the costumes and hair quite fun to look at. 🤓
I haven’t seen the Tammy Faye Baker film. I’m curious, what went wrong with Chastain’s version of Tammy Faye?
IIRC Chastain had a lot to do with how Tammy Faye was depicted, and she chose to make her a victim of her husband instead of a criminal like him in how they cheated so many people out of money. She was living the opulent lifestyle right by his side, yet she was an innocent victim? I just don’t see it that way.
I see. That’s fair. That’s how it can often be with ‘creative licenses.’
When I first saw this trailer, I almost thought it gave too much of the story away, but I suppose in this instance with these kind of actors the journey will be far greater than the destination. Looking forward to it.
Ver well put, monsieur! 🤓 I was so busy observing the acting chops of the ladies, that it hadn’t even accrued to me how much the trailer was giving away.
Sounds like a great movie, on the watch list! 👍
It does look mighty promising. The kind of good that I suspect won’t be too emotionally taxing. 🤓
