Starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga; it’s time for that long-awaited new Joker – Folie À Deux (Madness for Two) trailer.
I’m quite sure that the story that director Todd Phillips has chosen to tell will be engaging. Nevertheless, since many iterations of the Joker story have been told, it’s not the story that is pulling me in. Rather, it’s my curiosity about the performances and especially the visuals.
Part of what made Joker 2019 a must-see was the deep dive into his origin story, like never before. Now that we’re in the phase where he’s finally gained power, it will be interesting to see if this second part is presented in a way that doesn’t feel too much like a repetition of the ’empowered Joker story’. To begin with, Joker – Folie À Deux is a musical, which is certainly different.
What are your thoughts after seeing the above trailer?
Brendan Gleeson, Steve Coogan, Zazie Beetz, Ken Leung, Jacob Lofland, Gattlin Griffith, Leigh Gill Sharon Washington, Troy Metcalf, Harry Lawtey, Tim Dillon, George Carroll and Mike Houston also star.
Folie à Deux Release Dates: October 4th, 2024 (US & UK)…

Troublesome pairing, here they come! 😀
That’s a great way to put it. 😁
I find the joker a really scary character, this seem interesting but I’m not sure, I’m scared by the trailer!
Do you mean Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker or the Joker generally? He’s scary on several levels. However, I feel more sad for him than I am scared. That may be because he hasn’t quite done his worst just yet – this new Joaquin Joker. But I’m sure he’ll get started in Folie A Deux.
The joker generally – I find the sadness part of the reason, Heath Ledger was terrifying. . .
Got it. 🤓 👍 The sadness is very intense indeed. Especially because it’s based on so much truth about the human experience. Ledger’s Joker remains my favourite. He was terrifying but also wonderfully thrilling because I LOVE a great performance.
This trailer didn’t hit me the same as the first, but I’m still confident it will be a worthy sequel.
Agreed. It’s different from the first and still leans towards quality.
I’m not sure if the timing of the release is the best. I see The Joker as have parallels to a certain unnamed orange one running for public office. This could incite magates just before election time in november. I wish they’d wait until Feb or later. Aside from that I’m intrigued. Can two somebodies that twisted and loosely connected with reality find love that doesn’t end up destroying each other?
😁😁 Thank you for the words ‘a certain unnamed orange one.’ That’s roughly the same way I reference that individual as well.
I hear you about the timing. I fell that destroying each other has to be the main way it’s likely to go for HQ and AF. Let’s hope it’s not all too real, in more ways than one. 🤞🤞
I had no intentions of seeing it, until I just watched the trailer! Looks like some great performances!
Great performances are indeed coming. I can feel it too.🤓
Oh girll!!!! I’ve been waiting for this!
We may need tissues for this one too. 😁
Yes for sure! Because the first one madame so sad too. I’m team joker! LOL
Me too! Team Joker when Heath Ledger played him and now with Joaquin Phoenix in the role. Ledger because his performance was incredible, unforgettable. I missed him when he wasn’t on screen. Phoenix’s version because I want him to get help since society has let him down, terribly. 🤓
YES!!!!!!!! I’m down for whoever needs help. Society ignores those that are in need and that pisses me off.
Too true.
I still think the idea of making a musical with this sequel is kind of strange but at the same time brave. Let’s see how it goes.
As I like to say, ‘fingers, toes and everything crossed’ the musical element works out.
A great post. This is definitely a movie I am looking forward to watching soon. I was a huge fan of the first Joker which raised the bar for the comic book genre. It was a fantastic interpretation of an iconic character. I’m curious to see how a sequel would turn out to be. Given how great the first movie was, it has a lot to live up to. The casting of Lady Gaga has me intrigued.
Here’s why I loved the first Joker:
