Mischief and Mayhem is the order of the day with The Cat in the Hat, the new animated/comedy/adventure starring Giancarlo Esposito, Bill Hader and Matt Berry.

The Cat in the Hat is one of those children’s books/stories that I know very little about, except the look of the hat said cat chooses to wear. However, I am very ready to let this movie be my education.

In addition to learning more about why the stories are so popular, I’m very curious about the various switches in animation style in this trailer. Did you notice that too?

How close to your heart is The Cat in the Hat?

America Ferrera, Quinta Brunson, Xochitl Gomez, Tituss Burgess, Bowen Yang, Paula Pell and Tiago Martinez also star.

The Cat in the Hat Release Dates: February 27th, 2026 (US & UK)…

Happy Film loving,

G

  1. I didn’t notice the animation style changes until I saw a YouTube comment that mentioned them. ☺️

  2. I hope this movie will be good. The Cat is different from the book and not for the looking but for the behavior. I want to hope they will give justice to poor Dr Seuss. At least this movie will never be worse than the live action with Meyers.

  3. I love Cat in the Hat (the book). The live-action Mike Myers movie is genuinely terrible, but it’s a guilty pleasure that I can’t help but to love ironically. If I’m being honest, this new animated movie looks kind of bad. Not in the same way as the previous adaptation, but I don’t like the animation, voice acting, modern slang, or potty humor that it has so far. Maybe I’m wrong, but Dr. Seuss Adaptations don’t have the greatest track record.

    1. The Mike Myers one is ‘so bad it’s good.’ I’ve never seen it, and I don’t think I’ve ever had patience for the ‘bad, so it’s good’ types.

You’re certainly not alone in expecting this to disappoint. Let’s hope to be pleasantly surprised. 🤞

  4. Hmmm, I grew up reading the books, and I think that is all I need. This character doesn’t seem like the same personality? Curious about the change ups in style, though. 😉

  5. Yeah it’s all over the place. 😄
The live action version was not good, but I actually liked Myers’ interpretation of isolated from the rest of the movie. It was a big flop so I’m hard pressed to imagine any movie lover missed it (at least the trailer) because marketing was in full swing. 🙃
I know Dr. Seuss only from the movies and I agree the adaptations are hit and miss. Usually it’s best in animation style. I didn’t pay close attention to switching styles on the first watch but I noticed it. On the rewatch it became clear they are consistent based on where the cat is (our world or fantasy world). We’ll see how it turns out.
P.S. YT offered SNL sketch with Bill Hader as the cat in the hat which I don’t recall seeing. Funny adult humor disguised as children’s sketch.
