CAPE FEAR (2026): New Trailer Starring Amy Adams, Javier Bardem, Patrick Wilson…

Patrick Wilson and Amy Adams play a happily married couple who face a growing threat when a notorious vengeance-seeking killer (Javier Bardem) from their past is released from prison.

Cape Fear is a ten-part crime/drama/thriller series that features Lily Collias, Samantha Clifford, Gem Marc Collins and Dot Cloud as additional key cast.

I haven’t seen the 1991 version of this story starring Robert De Niro and Nick Nolte. Nor have I watched the 1962 release with Gregory Peck and Robert Mitchum.

If the trend with remakes is anything to go by, this new iteration is unlikely to be better than the earlier versions, but only time will tell because this cast isn’t at all bad.

Bardem seems to be having fun with his second, or is it his third villainous era, the first of which, for me, started with No Country for Old Men (2007).

Have you seen any of the first two Cape Fear films? If so, how were they for you?

Lily Collias, Samantha Clifford, Gem Marc Collins, Dot Cloud, Brandon Hirsch, Jay Huguley, Wynn Everett, Patrick Fischler, Evan Ivory and George Murray Jr. also star.

Cape Fear Release Dates: June 5th, 2026 (US & UK)…

NIGHTBITCH (2024): The Thing I…

Nightbitch (2024), Amy Adams, Searchlight Pictures
Nightbitch (2024), Amy Adams, Searchlight Pictures

I wanted the best for Nightbitch, Amy Adams, Scoot McNairy and Zoë Chao’s latest comedy/drama/horror film about a full-time mother whose daily life takes an unexpectedly surreal turn.

I hoped director Marielle Heller’s film would be the good kind of quirky I didn’t know I needed. You know, the engaging and memorable – but in the best way type of movie.

The bad news is I found Nightbitch boring. I started watching it, then fell asleep for an hour. Upon waking, I wondered if I should quit altogether. I decided to wait another fifteen minutes before properly aborting the mission to complete.

I’m sure Nightbitch has something worthwhile to say about motherhood. It just didn’t say it well enough for my tastes, since I couldn’t continue watching past the thirty-minute mark.

If you made it to the end of Nighbitch, I’m curious to know if you think I’m missing out.

NIGHTBITCH (2024): New Trailer From Amy Adams, Scoot McNairy, Zoë Chao…

Read my spoiler-free movie review of Nightbitch (2024).

Directed by Marielle Heller; Nightbitch is a new comedy/drama/horror film starring Amy Adams.

With a supporting cast that includes Scoot McNairy and Zoë Chao, Adams plays a woman whose domesticity takes a surreal turn after pausing her career to become a full-time mother.

Erm… So, this is very unexpected.

I’m down for the humour and to see Adams’s ‘mother’ character let the rage fly. Also, the fact that where her character’s name would usually go on IMDb, it simply says ‘mother,’ seems like a statement in itself.

Fingers crossed this leans towards the quirky/clever/funny side rather than a tad too weird to keep watching. What do you think?

Mary Holland, Jessica Harper, Kerry O’Malley, Ella Thomas, Laura Meadows, Roslyn Gentle, Michaela Baham, Stacey Swift and Adrienne Rose White also star.

Nightbitch Release Dates: December 6th, 2024 (US)…

MAN OF STEEL (2013): The Things I Liked…

Man of Steel (2012), Henry Cavill, Warner Bros. Pictures
Man of Steel (2012), Henry Cavill, Warner Bros. Pictures

Three things I realised while watching director Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel (2013)

  1. Henry Cavill is a great Superman.
  2. Christopher Nolan, a.k.a ‘Inception (2010) and Tenet (2020) director Christopher Nolan’ wrote the script. Had I known this beforehand, I’d have watched the movie much sooner. Nolan’s involvement may also be why the musical score was so noticeably good. You know, as per most, if not all Nolan films.
  3. This third point is a tad random, but here we go: To my (I want to say ‘expert’) eyes, Diane Lane and Paula Pattern (not in the movie) look as though they could be related. Do you see it too?

I enjoyed most of what happens in Man of Steel, from the music, performances, very engaging story, to the special effects and action. Yet, I can’t deny that I did start to lose interest after the two-hour mark, when there were still another twenty-three minutes remaining.

Other things that stood out less positively include the fight sequence between Superman and General Zod (Michael Shannon) towards the end. It just wasn’t quite the exciting, well-choreographed face-off I expected. Also, there’s a strange moment in the movie when a military officer references Superman’s ‘hotness’/attractiveness. Instead of being funny, the dialogue felt more out of place.

I know it’s been seven years since this film was released, which means you’ve probably seen it already, if not more than once. Nevertheless, I say Man of Steel is worth watching, particularly because of Cavill and all the other positive points mentioned above.

HILLBILLY ELEGY (2020): New Trailer Starring Haley Bennett, Amy Adams, Glenn Close, Gabriel Basso…

Hillbilly Elegy (2020), Amy Adams, Haley Bennett, Netflix

Based on the book of the same name by J.D. Vance; Hillbilly Elegy is a new drama starring Amy Adams, Haley Bennett, Gabriel Basso and Glenn Close.

Directed by Ron Howard; it’s the story of a Yale law student (Brasso) who’s drawn back to his hometown where he grapples with family history, Appalachian values and the American dream.

Close and Adams are really all the reasons I needed before saying yes to watching this. It also looks like Adams will finally win an Academy Award because this here looks like a truly brilliant performance.

Freida Pinto, Sunny Mabrey, Bo Hopkins, Dylan Gage, David Atkinson, Marcella Lentz-Pope, Stephen Kunken, Chase Anderson, William Mark McCullough, Jason Davis and Tierney Smith also star.

Hillbilly Elegy Release Dates: November 24th, 2020 (US & UK)…
