Don’t Look Up, the Adam McKay co-written and directed comedy/drama, proved an adequately entertaining watch.
Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchett and Timothée Chalamet, it’s a story that follows two low-level astronomers on a media tour to warn mankind of an approaching comet certain to destroy planet Earth.
I found Don’t Look Up most fun when DiCaprio’s character finally lost it, because before that point, I was desperate for a truly top-level, exciting-to-watch scene, the kind he’s known for, to take centre stage. Not that he wasn’t perfectly watchable before then, of course. It’s just that he knows how to deliver a dramatic, emotional moment, and I needed to see it.
With a cast this accomplished, there were no issues performance-wise, and it was satisfying to see Meryl Streep as the President of the United States.
The comedy in McKay’s film isn’t necessarily the laugh-out-loud kind, which isn’t a bad thing. However, after a while, the persistent lack of seriousness became tedious for me.
Lastly, I suspect I’m not the only one who found what they did to Rob Morgan’s character’s hair distractingly questionable.
Watch it if you haven’t already and you’re curious. Plus, I suspect you’ll enjoy how the movie ends. I sure did.

Leo will eventually command center stage. He sure delivers here with the outburst at the News desk. I happen to adore this movie. Even though there’s plenty to nit-pick at. I thought it could have won Best Picture that year. But it became so politicized due to everyone assuming the “Meteor” was a trojan horse for the climate change agenda. Which, let’s be honest— maybe it is… But the comedic absurdity, it’s so damn accurate a portrayal of our situation🔭🌍🚀
‘Accurate portrayal’ is right, sadly. I saw the strong climate-change agenda very clearly, but it didn’t detract from my enjoyment at all. You’re right about DiCaprio; there’s no point having him on the cast if he doesn’t get to fully flex his acting muscles.I loved his outburst. 😊🥂
A DiCaprio performance has never disappointed. It’s his superpower.

If Idiocracy was way ahead of its time, this one is right on point. Uncomfortably so. I remember enjoying it when it came out. Watching it today probably hits a bit different simply because we are saturated by absurdity from real life news to the point that anything goes and it’s hard to get surprised any longer by the level of stupidity of all of it.
Very good point about watching Don’t Look Up in our current reality. Over the years, I’ve heard plenty about Idiocracy and how accurate a predictor it is, though I’ve never seen it.
