THE GARFIELD MOVIE (2024): New Trailer From Chris Pratt, Samuel L. Jackson, Hannah Waddingham, Snoop Dogg, Ving Rhames…

Mark Dindal directs Chris Pratt, Snoop Dogg, Samuel L. Jackson, Hannah Waddingham and Ving Rhames in a new movie about Garfield, arguably everyone’s favourite obese, orange tabby cat.

After years of being the pampered orange one, Garfield and his dog brother Odie go on a wild adventure with Garfield’s long-lost father, Vic (Jackson).

I was a little afraid that my favourite thing about this movie might be the cuteness of Garfield as a kitten. Not anymore. After this trailer, I’m ready for the fun adventure this is very likely to be.

Besides the cuteness, I’m excited to hear Waddingham as the deranged cat. The lady has a great voice after all.

Nicholas Hoult, Cecily Strong, Harvey Guillén, Brett Goldstein and Bowen Yang also star.

The Garfield Movie Release Dates: May 24th, 2024 (US & UK)…

SING SING (2023): New Trailer Starring Colman Domingo, Sean Dino Johnson, Clarence Maclin, Paul Raci…

Sing Sing is a new drama about a theatre group who escape the reality of incarceration through drama. Specifically by staging a play with a cast that includes actors who have been incarcerated.

Colman Domingo (If Beale Street Could Talk (2018), Clarence Maclin, Paul Raci and Sean Dino Johnson star; while Greg Kwedar co-writes and directs.

As a fan of drama the subject, and all its powers, I find this trailer very moving. It’s the kind of trailer that was always going to affect most people, thanks in part to how beautifully it’s edited. Add the fact that it’s a story about people who dedicated themselves to lifting others, and, oh, wait; are my eyeballs suddenly ‘sweating?’

Domingo is great, of course. I’m excited to see how the characters find themselves transformed. After all, getting to be creative generally has a lot more to offer the participant than just fun.

DAMSEL (2024): New Trailer Starring Millie Bobby Brown, Angela Bassett, Nick Robinson, Robin Wright…

Damsel (2024), Millie Bobby Brown, Netflix

Read my spoiler-free movie review of Damsel (2023).

Millie Bobby Brown, Angela Bassett, Ray Winstone, Robin Wright and Nick Robinson are the stars of Damsel; a new action/fantasy/adventure directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo.

Brown plays Elodie, a dutiful damsel who agrees to marry a handsome prince, only to find that the royal family’s plans for her look nothing like happily ever after.

We definitely have another trailer here that has shown far more of the story than is ideal. However, thankfully, I remain excited to see Elodie overthrow the super-entitled royals.

I’m in for the coming-of-age story of what looks like a very capable heroine. There’s also the tasty vengeance to look forward to, and the scene of Elodie confronting Prince Henry (Robinson) after his unflinchingly cruel betrayal should hopefully be great.

Esther Odumade, Ulli Ackermann, Nicole Joseph, Nick Robinson, Milo Twomey, Brooke Carter, Ezra Faroque Khan, Brogan Mcfarlane and Sonya Nisa also star.

Damsel Release Dates: March 8th, 2024, Netflix…

MOVIES & I, A LOVE STORY…

When my love of movies was relatively fresh, I used to watch a lot more films than I do now. I’m sure that in addition to simply wanting to be entertained, another reason I’ve seen as many films as I have over the years includes a general curiosity and desire to learn about those who live the kind of lives my growing mind could only imagine.

In all the years of being an avid consumer of great films and TV shows (the ones that called to me – because there’s certainly plenty I’m yet to see), I eventually got to a place where I realised that I’d exposed myself to a plethora of stories about the many aspects of the human experience that I’d been curious about, including many that I had no idea I’d want to know. I did this by being open to seeing easy-to-watch films/programmes that did little more than distract/entertain me and others that had me, laughing, crying and thinking deeply.

At this point, I can honestly say that the stories in all the films and TV shows I’ve seen have helped get me to where I am today, and in ways I could not have foreseen. They’ve contributed to making me the thoughtful, understanding and empathetic person that twelve-year-old me somehow knew I wanted to be. Because at that age, I remember deciding that one of my goals in life would be to try and understand people.

Of course, psychology, meaningful conversation and a commitment to empathy are some of the key ways to get to understanding others. Nevertheless, Little did I know that years later, I would feel as though I understand many aspects of the human condition, thanks in no small part to all the rich stories I’ve seen in the films and TV shows I’ve had the privilege of being exposed to.

I’m not writing this because I’m going to stop watching movies or writing about them. But because these days, even though I remain eternally curious about the human, that curiosity is now predominantly seen in my interactions with people I encounter in real life. And not because I believe that film has taught me all that it has to teach, but rather that at least in this new-ish phase, films/stories that are fun, lighthearted and entertaining are far more appealing than those where the protagonists suffer in hard-to-watch ways.

In case anyone had been wondering why I haven’t yet reviewed/watched Killers of the Flower Moon (2023), Origin (2023), The Zone of Interest (2023) or any other seemingly emotionally taxing films, this is why. I may eventually get to these movies but until then, their trailers are enough. And thank goodness for The Fall Guy, (2024) Deadpool & Wolverine (2024), Beverley Hills Cop – Axel F (2024), and so on.

How have your movie-watching habits evolved over the years? Are there genres you used to love but now can’t get into?

I may change the title of this post later, but for now, I can think of nothing else.

ROAD HOUSE (2024): New Trailer From Jake Gyllenhaal, Conor McGregor, Daniela Melchior, Jessica Williams…

Director Doug Liman’s latest action/thriller Road House has Jake Gyllenhaal playing an Ex-UFC fighter named Dalton.

Dalton accepts a job as a bouncer at a Florida Keys roadhouse and soon finds out that things are more than he expected.

Conor McGregor, Daniela Melchior, Billy Magnussen and Lukas Gage are among the key cast.

This is not the kind of movie I’d typically be drawn to. But, add Gyllenhaal and my curiosity about McGregor’s performance and suddenly, look at that, I have a ticket.

I may just decide to watch the 1989 original Road House movie after all. The one starring Patrick Swayze; I hear that there’s much to see where fight choreography is concerned – another reason I have to watch this new remake.

Darren Barnet, Post Malone, Joaquim de Almeida, Dominique Columbus, Arturo Castro, JD Pardo, Beau Knapp, Hannah Love Lanier, Kevin Carroll, Bob Menery and Travis Van Winkle also star.

Road House Release Dates: March 21st, 2024 (US & UK)…
