FALL (2022): The Things I Liked…

Fall (2022), Grace Caroline Currey, Signature Entertainment
Fall (2022), Grace Caroline Currey, Signature Entertainment

The idea of being up high on a structure where falling is incredibly likely was never going to be my idea of fun. Unless, of course, I am watching actors pretend to do it for my entertainment.

Directed by Scott Mann, Fall is an adequately engaging thriller that follows two best friends who climb a 2,000-foot radio tower just for kicks.

Starring Grace Caroline Currey and Virginia Gardner, Mann’s film is the type of thriller that made me super uneasy. Yet, it still kept me curious enough to stay watching.

Fall also stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Mason Gooding, happens to be generally well-paced and features good chemistry between Currey and Gardner. I enjoyed the smartly executed terrifying moments. Especially as the two friends continue to climb higher and the audience sees just how physically vulnerable they truly are.

If heights are not your worst nightmare, why not try Fall for that relatively easy-to-watch thriller? The kind that will have you wondering whether you would survive if you found yourself 2000 feet in the air, without barriers to keep you safe.

GLASS ONION – A KNIVES OUT MYSTERY (2022): New Trailer Starring Daniel Craig, Edward Norton, Kathryn Hahn, Kate Hudson, Dave Bautista…

Daniel Craig is back as everyone’s favourite Southern detective, Benoit Blanc. Directed once again by Rian Johnson, Glass Onion – A Knives Out Mystery takes us to Greece for Blanc’s next case.

Get ready for a bunch of intriguing new characters played by Ethan Hawke, Edward Norton, Kate Hudson, Dave Bautista, Madelyn Cline, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr. and Jessica Henwick.

I like that the cast mix feels quite unexpected here. And if the finished film is close to as captivating as this trailer, I’m going to be very happy indeed.

Lastly, remember how Chris Evans’s Knives Out (2019) character Ransom Drysdale had people rediscovering their appreciation for cable knit sweaters? Well, what are the chances that Bautista’s speedos will do something similar? Maybe?

Glass Onion – A Knives Out Mystery Release Dates: December 23rd, 2022 (US & UK)…

TRIANGLE OF SADNESS (2022): New Trailer Starring Woody Harrelson, Thobias Thorwid, Harris Dickinson, Charlbi Dean…

Harris Dickinson, Woody Harrelson, Charlbi Dean and Thobias Thorwid are the stars of new comedy/drama Triangle of Sadness.

Directed by Ruben Östlund, the setting is a yacht cruise for the super-rich. The yacht sinks, leaving survivors, including a fashion model celebrity couple.

I happened to watch this trailer and the one for The Menu (2022) back to back. And since they seem to have a couple of things in common, I have a question. If you could only watch one of the two films, which one would you choose and why?

My choice is Triangle of Sadness, and certainly not just because I like the way Harrelson’s character keeps casually winking. It’s the comedy and the ‘Titanic, but different’ vibe that this movie is giving off.

Arvin Kananian, Alicia Eriksson, Zlatko Buric, Dolly De Leon, Vicki Berlin, Sunnyi Melles, Iris Berben and Oliver Ford Davies also star.

Triangle of Sadness Release Dates: October 28th, 2022 (US & UK)…

BEAST (2022): The Things I Liked…

I had to watch Beast, director Baltasar Kormákur’s story about a family of three trying to survive several attacks by a rogue lion in South Africa for three reasons.

The first is Idris Elba. Second, knowing that Sharlto Copley always brings a very engaging quality to every role. And three, I adore big cats. So, unsurprisingly, even though the acting and story are not terrible, the well-executed special effects, a.k.a the ‘lion stunt work’, remain my favourite thing about Beast

Kormákur’s film is a redemption/vengeance story that gets better as it plays. And there are some clever and memorable moments, including that final showdown. As such, if the idea of watching a movie where the ‘bad guy’ is the stunning and majestic lion isn’t too much, give Beast a chance the next time you’re looking for something that isn’t necessarily perfect but does offer thrills and a fun distraction.

THE WOMAN KING (2022): New Trailer From Viola Davis, Hero Fiennes Tiffin, Lashana Lynch, John Boyega…

The Woman King (2022), John Boyega, Sony Pictures Entertainment

Inspired by true events, The Woman King tells the story of one of the most powerful states of Africa in the 18th and 19th centuries. A place called The Kingdom of Dahomey.

Directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood; Viola Davis, John Boyega, Lashana Lynch, Sheila Atim, Hero Feinnes Tiffin and Shaina West star.

I happened to be familiar with the Dahomey before this trailer. And their story is certainly worthy of a historical epic.

I’m in for the impressive action in the above 2:35 seconds, a depiction of the courage it must have taken for the Dahomey to exist for as long as they did. Plus, Davis and Lynch, of course.

Thuso Mbedu, Jayme Lawson, Jordan Bolger, Adrienne Warren star. Masali Baduza, Makgotso M, Angélique Kidjo, Thando Dlomo and Jimmy Odukoya also star.

The Woman King Release Dates: September 16th, 2022 (US); October 7th, 2022 (UK)…
