MONKEY MAN (2024): New Trailer From Dev Patel, Sharlto Copley, Adithi Kalkunte, Sikandar Kher, Pitobash…

New action/thriller Monkey Man is an epic-looking vengeance story starring and directed by Dev Patel, who also happens to be one of the co-writers.

Post trailer viewing, I find myself rather happy for Patel, considering the excitement around such a promising directorial debut.

I see plenty of John Wick fans being drawn to this one, along with many enthusiasts of a good vengeance tale, especially if the gratuitous violence isn’t off-putting.

I’m ready, and look forward to keeping up with all the exciting fight sequences.

Sharlto Copley, Adithi Kalkunte, Sikandar Kher itobash. Ashwini Kalsekar, Makrand Deshpande, Sobhita Dhulipala and Jatin Malik also star.

Monkey Man Release Dates: April 5th, 2024 (UK & US)…

BEAST (2022): The Things I Liked…

I had to watch Beast, director Baltasar Kormákur’s story about a family of three trying to survive several attacks by a rogue lion in South Africa for three reasons. The first is Idris Elba. Second, knowing that Sharlto Copley always brings a very engaging quality to every role. And three, I adore big cats. So, unsurprisingly, even though the acting and story are not terrible, the well-executed special effects, a.k.a the ‘lion stunt work’ remains my favourite thing about Beast.

Kormákur’s film is a redemption/ vengeance story that gets better as it plays. And there are some clever and memorable moments, including that final showdown. As such, if the idea of watching a movie where the ‘bad guy’ is the stunning and majestic lion isn’t too much, give Beast a chance the next you’re looking for something that isn’t necessarily perfect but does offer thrills and a fun distraction.

GRINGO (2018): New Trailer From Charlize Theron, David Oyelowo, Joel Edgerton…

Read my spoiler-free movie review of Gringo (2018)

In dark comedy Gringo which stars Charlize Theron, David Oyelowo and Joel Edgerton, Oyelowo is Harold Soyinka, a former law-abiding citizen who, in his battle to survive finds himself a wanted criminal.

Directed by Nash Edgerton, Amanda Seyfried Thandie Newton and Sharlto Copley also star…

I’m really looking forward to seeing Oyelowo in a comedy role because this trailer is really fun. Something about this movie reminds me of We’re the Millers (2013), a fun comedy. Also, Copley and Theron are usually great in comedy roles.

Gringo Release Dates: March 9th, 2018 (US & UK)…

THE HOLLARS (2016): The Thing I Liked – Sharlto Copley’s Performance…

The Hollars (2016), Sharlto Copley, John Krasinski
The Hollars (2016), Sharlto Copley, John Krasinski

Directed by John Krasinski, The Hollars is a comedy / drama about a son returning to his small town after his mother falls ill. Not the most obvious premise for comedy but there are laughs to be had with Krasinki’s latest directorial effort. Besides the good humour, especially courtesy of Sharlto Copley’s brother character, I enjoyed the film’s portrait of family, sibling dynamics and all the good performances from all the cast.

Written by Jim Strouse who also wrote one of my favourites, People, Places, Things (2015), Anna Kendrick, Charlie Day, Richard Jenkins, Margot Martingale and Randall Park also star.

The Hollars is fitting for when you’re in the mood for a relaxing drama / comedy with a little splash of romance – nothing too taxing.

FREE FIRE (2016): New Trailer From Brie Larson, Sharlto Copley, Cillian Murphy, Armie Hammer…

Free Fire (2017), Brie Larson, Cillian Murphy, Michael Smiley
Free Fire (2017), Brie Larson, Cillian Murphy, Michael Smiley

A shootout between two gangs in a deserted Boston warehouse, in 1978 is what happens in director Ben Wheatley’s new movie Free Fire. Starring Cillian Murphy, Armie  Hammer, Brie Larson and Sharlto Copley, we hopefully have a rather stylish movie on the way – specially if we’re to believe the well edited trailer before us…

Right Away, Guy Ritchie’s style of film making came to mind as this trailer played – from Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels (1998) to The Man From U.N.C.L.E. (2015) and beyond. I’m just hoping that Wheatley’s movie is as good as the style and great stories that inspired it. Bring on the thrills great camera work, story and all else, no pressure.

What great choices Mr Copley makes in the roles he plays. So many pleasant surprises…

Michael Smiley, Jack Reynor, Babou Ceesay and Sam Riley also star.

Free Fire Release Dates: 2017 (US); March 31st, 2017 (UK)…

Starring and directed by John Krasinski, The Hollars is a family drama / comedy about what happens when a son returns to his home town after learning of his mother’s illness…

I’m tuning into this one for the comedy, intriguing family dynamics and a cast that in addition to krasinski, includes Charlie Day, Anna Kendrick, Richard Jenkins, Josh Groban, Margo Martindale and Sharlto Copley.

The Hollars Release Dates: August 25th, 2016 (US)…

Today’s trailer is quite different in that it’s a ‘first-person action movie’ and it stars Sharlto Copley and Haley Bennett…

Trailer 1

Trailer 2

I’m imagining that Hardcore Henry is going to be popular among gamers and anyone excited for a new kind of film viewing experience. I know that this is a first-person viewpoint movie but is it wrong to want to see what Henry’s face actually looks like?
