AVENGERS AGE OF ULTRON (2015): James Spader’s Voice… *Sigh

Read my spoiler-free movie review of Avengers Age of Ultron (2015).

If you thought the first trailer for Marvel’s Avengers – Age of Ultron was good, there’s more. Captain America, Hulk, Iron Man – all the Avengers are great. But as the movie title states. This is all about Ultron.

I’m going to tear you apart… from the inside

Really hear these words delivered by the wonderfully voiced James Spader (Ultron), and I think you’ll agree that evil has never sounded so good. To think I once believed ‘There are no strings on me from the first trailer was the best line.

GETT: THE TRIAL OF VIVIANE AMSALEM (2014): Trailer Of The Week

So, here’s a question…

How grateful do you feel for all your freedoms right about now?

How about now?

This is a very cleverly edited film preview. One that currently has my imagination churning thoughts of what will become of Vivianne or her husband. I can’t wait to find out.

AMERICAN SNIPER (2014): Bradley Cooper Makes It Good

American Sniper (2014), Bradley Cooper
American Sniper (2014), Bradley Cooper

There are obvious moral issues that come up as a result of the subject matter of Eastwood’s American Sniper, but that isn’t really what the film is about. Instead, it’s a story that touches on the impact of war on the psyche of someone whose job – simply put, is to kill anyone that poses an immediate danger to the Soldiers he’s hired to protect in Iraq, post 9/11.

Bradley Cooper does a brilliant job of portraying Chris Kyle, the most lethal sniper in U.S. military history – and he does in part with well-placed silences rather than words.

If you know the Chris Kyle story, you already know how this movie ends, and towards the end, you’ll be glad about how Eastwood dealt with the last few scenes; especially what you don’t see just before the real-life footage begins.

Considering Eastwood’s body of work, American Sniper is good, but it’s certainly no Million Dollar Baby (2004) or  Gran Torino (2008). Some have stated that American Sniper feels more like a dictation of the subject’s life rather than an actual movie, and I don’t completely disagree. I think it’s worth watching because Bradley Cooper is great in the role. I recommend watching for his Oscar nomination worthy performance.

ANT-MAN (2015): Yes. I Will Believe In Paul Rudd

Ant-Man (2015), Paul Rudd
Ant-Man (2015), Paul Rudd

Ant-Man is possibly the most uncool superhero name out there. I say this whilst being completely unfamiliar with pretty much all comic books.

Since it is Marvel, I’m hoping very much that I’m proven more wrong than ever before. Please, the powers that be!

Here’s the teaser trailer.

What do you think? I’ll likely watch because I enjoy the work of Rudd. Also, how young does Michael Douglas look in the preview?

THE INTERVIEW (2014): When It’s Meant To Be…

The Interview (2014), Seth Rogen, James Franco
The Interview (2014), Seth Rogen, James Franco

Despite the hackers, I’ve watched Seth Rogen and James Franco’s The Interview and had a great time. I particularly loved the scenes with Kim Jong-un (Randall Park) and his Korean accent.

Fans of the lead actors (Rogen and Franco’s) long-standing movie bromance are bound to be very happy indeed. Especially if they accept that Franco’s character is really supposed to be that dim. Otherwise, like myself at first, Franco’s Dave Skylark could seem more than a tad over the top.

Rogen, Franco, Park, Diana Bang and Lizzy Caplan all play their parts beautifully – along with some welcome surprise appearances from Franco and Rogen’s famous friends.

Having already paid the film my full attention and had fun, in true movie fan style, The Interview will now be one of those movies I have playing in the  background (Instead of music), so I can pause whatever I’m doing, in order to re-watch my favourite scenes.
