BACK IN ACTION (2025): The Things I Liked…

Back In Action (2025), Jamie Foxx, Cameron Diaz, Netflix

‘Good’ and ‘worth watching’ are not words to describe Back in Action, Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz’s latest action/comedy.

Though the story of a former CIA couple getting pulled back into espionage after fifteen years away may have a small number of memorable moments (none worth highlighting, mind you), director Seth Gordon’s effort is nothing we haven’t seen before.

Even worse, Diaz and Foxx’s dynamic is awkward. The only sort of saving grace is that the film becomes a tad more fun when the former spy’s covers are blown.

Two small highlights are Andrew Scott and Glenn Close. That’s sadly it.

In case it wasn’t already clear, Back in Action is one to watch ‘only if you absolutely must.’ Otherwise, the rather similar The Family Plan (2023) is actually better. Hopefully, Love Hurts (2025), an upcoming movie with a similar premise, will be an improvement.

BACK IN ACTION (2024): New Trailer Staring Jamie Foxx, Cameron Diaz, McKenna Roberts…

Read my spoiler-free movie review of Back in Action (2025).

Directed by Seth Gordon, Back in Action is the latest action/comedy starring Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx.

Foxx and Diaz play former CIA spies pulled back into espionage after their secret identities are leaked.

The trope of former assassins and the like getting pulled back in seems to be in fashion lately. Especially based on Love Hurts (2025) and The Family Plan (2023).

Still, it feels great to see Diaz back. Particularly in a movie that looks like plenty of fun, based on this trailer. The pairing with Foxx feels, to me, like a great decision.

Bring on the fun, I say!

McKenna Roberts, Rylan Jackson, Glenn Close, Kyle Chandler, Jamie Demetriou, Andrew Scott, Fola Evans-Akingbola, Robert Besta, Bashir Salahuddin, Tom Brittney, Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo and Tobi Bamtefa also star.

Back in Action Release Dates: January 17th, 2025 (US & UK)…

THE HOLIDAY (2006): Good At Christmas & Any Other Time The Mood Strikes…

The Holiday (2006), Kate Winslet
The Holiday (2006), Kate Winslet

Set in England and Los Angeles during the festive season, The Holiday stars Kate Winslet, Jude Law, Jack Black and Cameron Diaz.

Written/directed by Nancy Meyers, the story of the four main and very relatable characters is beautifully told and features the perfect musical score by the great, one and only, Hans Zimmer.

My favourite scene which I’m sure is also the favourite of many others is the one in the fort that features two talented child actors, Emma Pritchard (Olivia) and Miffy Englefield (Sophie).

The Holiday is a film to watch when you’re in the mood for a good romance/comedy, whether it’s Christmas or not. Lastly, I’m not at all mad at the undeniable Bridget Jone’s Diary (2001) vibe.

Watch it because it’s good, funny and romantic.
