THE FAMILY PLAN (2023): The Things I Liked…

The Family Plan, the latest action/comedy from Mark Wahlberg may not offer anything new story-wise, but I did find it fun, well-paced and strangely Christmassy.

The Christmassy vibe is because a likeable family is central to the story’s heart. There’s also Vegas, a destination often described as ‘camp as Christmas’.

The charisma and aesthetic that is Wahlberg had all the usual magic to make director Simon Cellan Jones’s film precisely what I needed. Especially considering that my movie appetite has leant towards less emotionally taxing productions of late.

My favourite thing about The Family Plan is the aforementioned special Wahlberg magic, including the unexpected dynamic between his character, Dan and Max, his youngest son.

Watch The Family Plan if you need some light action/comedy fun with an unexpected Christmassy quality.

Lastly and randomly, here’s something fun on the internet featuring Wahlberg, Will Ferrell and Chelsea Handler.

THE FAMILY PLAN (2023): New Trailer From Mark Wahlberg, Michelle Monaghan, Ciarán Hinds, Maggie Q…

Read my spoiler-free movie review of The Family Plan (2023).

New action/comedy The Family Plan stars Mark Wahlberg as former top assassin Dan Morgan. Dan is a suburban dad enjoying the quiet life until his past catches up to him.

Ciarán Hinds, Michelle Monaghan and Maggie Q are among the key cast.

It’s simple, I just really enjoy Wahlberg in action/comedy roles, and this has that non-emotionally taxing vibe I’m currently heavily into.

Also, anyone else get computer generated vibes when looking at the baby in this trailer?

If it happens that Whalberg isn’t your thing, how about the seemingly near identical Role Play (2023), starring Kaley Cuoco and David Oyelowo?

Zoe Margaret Colletti, Felicia Pearson, Saïd Taghmaoui, Jonny Coyne, Savanna Gann, Van Crosby, Anisa Nyell Johnson, Miles Doleac, Valkyrae, Hayley Keown and Al Vicente also star.

The Family Plan Release Dates: December 15th, 2023 (US & UK)…

Elizabeth Harvest is a new Sebastian Gutierrez-written/directed thriller, one about the possible consequences of giving your spouse full access to all areas of your life except one.

Ciarán Hinds, Abbey Lee and Carla Gugino star…

I want to see see how similar this movie is to Crimson Peak (2015) but I’m also in for the colours, the mystery and I admit – Lee’s arresting face.

Additional cast includes Dylan Baker and Matthew Beard.

Elizabeth Harvest Release Dates: August 10th, 2018 (US)…

RED SPARROW (2018): New Trailer From Jennifer Lawrence, Matthias Schoenaerts, Joel Edgerton, Jeremy Irons…

In the Francis Lawrence-directed Red Sparrow, which stars Jennifer Lawrence, Matthias Schoenaerts, Joel Edgerton and Jeremy Irons, a Russian spy falls for a CIA officer and considers becoming a double agent.

I’m in because the cast is great. I also want to see how it all unfolds since the story is already being compared to that of Angelina Jolie’s Salt (2010) as well as Marvel’s Black Widow.

Joely Richardson, Ciarán Hinds, Charlotte Rampling and Mary-Louise Parker also star.

Red Sparrow Release Dates: March 2nd, 2018, (US & UK); March 1st, 2018 (GER)…

SILENCE (2016): New Trailer From Director Martin Scorsese, Starring Andrew Garfield, Adam Driver, Liam Neeson…

Silence (2016), Adam Driver
Silence (2016), Adam Driver

Oscar winning director Martin Scorsese’s latest movie doesn’t look like it has a single gangster in sight.

Starring Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver as Jesuit priests in the 17th century, the film follows the pair to Japan where they go on a dangerous journey to find their mentor (Liam Neeson) and spread the word about Christianity.

I’m looking forward to finding out what magic Scorsese can create in what looks like a very different film than what we’re used to expecting from the acclaimed director.
