LATE NIGHT (2019): The Things I Liked…

Late Night (2019), Reid Scott, Mindy Kaling
Late Night (2019), Reid Scott, Mindy Kaling

Written by Mindy Kaling and set in New York City, Katherine (Emma Thompson) is a late night talk show host who’s convinced she’s about to lose her long-running show. Wanting to make a change, Molly (Kaling) is recruited and finds herself the only female member of Katherine’s writing team.

Also starring John Lithgow, Denis O’Hare, Amy Ryan, Reid Scott and Hugh Dancy, I found Late Night to be positively dramatic and funny in equal measure. I liked the writing and appreciated how much we get to know of Katherine’s truth – both at work and home. Late Night is a story about women, by women and features a complex, interesting main character along with several others you’d find in the behind the scenes world of late night television.

There’s a part or two that seemed a tad predictable, but not overly so. If you’re a fan of both Kaling and Thompson, chances are, you won’t regret watching director Nisha Ganatra’s film. Kaling is fun, funny, and Thompson is as good as she’s always been, meaning she’s great. Watch it and see.

Random fact. I’ve decided that Thompson is my aunt and Kaling my cousin. Lastly, a movie that came to mind as Late Night played…? The Devil Wears Prada (2006), of course.

Happy Film Loving,

BURNT (2015): Bradley Cooper Is A Troubled Chef In Dramatic New Trailer

Read my spoiler-free movie review of Burnt (2015).

A new chef movie is on the way in 2015.

Starring Bradley Cooper, Omar Sy, Emma Thompson, Sienna Miller and Lilly James, to name just a few, the story centres around Adam Jones (Cooper) who moves to London to start afresh after some bad decisions.

The trailer looks good and dramatic. Peculiarly, IMDb has categorised the film as a comedy. I guess the laughs have been saved for the film.

Burnt Release Dates:  October 18th 2015 (US), November 6th, 2015…
