Downton Abbey, that gargantuan hit of a television drama about the lives of a British aristocratic family and their servants in the early twentieth century, has a final chapter.

Directed by Simon Curtis, Downton Abbey – The Grand Finale catches up with the Crawley family and their servants as they enter the 1930s.

I quit watching this show a long time ago, mainly because of that thing called patience, of which I tend to have little. The matter of marrying off a certain Lady simply took too long to reach its conclusion, so I moved on.

Now, however, I find myself somewhat intrigued by the general sumptuousness of the costumes/mise en scene in this trailer. Time will tell if I tune in upon release.

What is your experience of Downton Abbey, if any? Is this final instalment calling to you?

To everyone who thought they’d seen the last of Downton Abbey’s Crawley family and their servants , the hit TV show is back in feature length movie form.

Matthew Crawley (Dan Stevens) may be more than long gone, but director Michael Engler promises there’s still more story worth telling.

Having not seen the last Downton season, after watching this trailer I’m mostly curious about who has been cast to play the visiting royals, King George the Fifth and his wife Queen Elizabeth.

Directed by Michael Engler, the time has come for the Downton Abbey movie teaser trailer.  It doesn’t show much but it does confirm that the key cast of the television series are among the stars.

A cast that includes Dame Maggie Smith, Michelle Dockery, Hugh Hugh Bonneville, Joanne Froggatt, and Elizabeth McGovern – to name just a few…

I actually have no idea how Downton Abbey the television  series ended because I stopped watching before it was all concluded. I am however a little bit curious about this new feature film version. I want to know how well the series will translate to the big screen.

Directed by Andy Serkis; starring Andrew Garfield, Claire Foy, Hugh Bonneville and Diana Rigg, Breathe tells the story of Robin, a handsome, brilliant and adventurous man whose life takes a dramatic turn when polio renders him paralysed.

I’m intrigued by this movie. Only somewhat intrigued because the story seems quite similar to The Theory Of Everything (2014) – a film which still remains fresh in my mind. Also, I’m probably a little more curious about director Andy Serkis’s other upcoming movie Jungle Book, which is due in 2018, and based on the famous Rudyard Kipling story.

Hugh Bonneville, Manish Dayal and Gillian Anderson are the stars of Viceroy’s House, a Gurinder Chadha-directed historical drama set in 1947 and centred around Lord Mountbatten’s part in the partition of India.

This is one for those curious about a dramatisation of what they may not already know about India’s history.

Also, quite undeniably, Viceroy’s House is probably quite ideal for the serious Downton Abbey fans. Both productions feature Bonnville. There’s also the upstairs/downstairs dynamic.
