SPECTRE (2015): The Things I Loved Most…

Spectre (2015), Daniel Craig

I’ll start this post by saying that my favourite James Bond film of all time remains the massively thrilling Casino Royale (2006). How does this bode with the fact that this is a post about Spectre? Not exactly very well but not absolutely disastrous either.

As the second Bond film directed by Sam Mendes, Spectre succeeds in providing most, if not all of those wonderful thrills synonymous with Craig’s Bond. Thrills that include great action sequences, beautiful cinematography, style, a wonderful sense of Britishness, great musical score, camera work, dialogue, etc. The only downside is that Casino Royale and Skyfall both do all of those things, just and better.

Overall, I enjoyed Spectre, even though it did feel a little odd without Judi Dench as M.  I won’t be forgetting the very raw and intense fight sequence on the moving train any time soon

There’s also the moment in the beginning where Bond is walking across the rooftop in Mexico City. I just love the music used here and the way it builds up with every step Bond takes towards his target. This is  the moment the famous ‘Bond is back!’ feeling took over; resulting in a prolonged, joyous and silent scream – much to the relief of my fellow cinema goers.

I do wonder though, whether I’d love the rooftop scene as much as I do if Daniel Craig’s physique, especially the way he moves and holds a gun wasn’t so arrestingly appealing? Probably not – and thankfully I know that I never have to find out.

Happy Film Loving 🙂

The final Spectre trailer has landed and to be honest I feared that it might show far more than I care to see before the movie. I’m delighted  to confirm that it doesn’t…

I’m beyond ready for October 16th (UK release date). Available in the US November 6th, 2015.

Happy Spectre 🙂

At last, the full Spectre trailer lands and it’s perfectly thrilling.

Perhaps it’s a generational thing, but Daniel Craig is without a doubt  my favourite Bond of all time.

Never has October felt so far away.

Happy Spectre 🙂

SPECTRE (2015): Welcome James. It’s Been A Long Time…

Sam Mendes, the Director of my favourite film, American Beauty (1999) said yes to making his second James Bond movie – and the first teaser trailer for Spectre (2015) has now arrived.

It looks like we’ll be getting more of the signature breathtaking cinematography, musical score, action sequences and the super dialogue typical of recent Bond films.

With some of Europe’s finest film making talent at the helm – Sam Mendes, Christoph Waltz, Lea Seydoux, Monica Bellucci and of course, Daniel Craig, all we have left to do now is look forward to the final product and hope that the next trailer or two don’t reveal too much of the plot.

Happy Spectre 🙂

SKYFALL (2012) Cinematography: Feast Your Eyes Cinephiles!

A few of my favourite cinematographically stunning moments from SKYFALL (2012). All thanks to brilliant Cinematographer Roger Deakins, of course. What’s not to love?

JAMES BOND – WHY CASINO ROYALE (2006) Is ‘THE ONE’

James Bond (Daniel Craig), Casino Royal (2006)
James Bond (Daniel Craig), Casino Royal (2006)

Roger Moore was my favourite James Bond for a very long time. Mainly because he’s the star of the first Bond film I ever watched. However, absolutely everything changed when my dear Mr. Craig, Daniel Craig came along.

I didn’t care that at the time, most believed him to be the wrong choice. I was too busy being excited that radical change was finally coming. Especially since like many other fans, I had fallen out of love with what the Franchise had become prior to Casino Royale.

Since Casino Royale is the very first James Bond book, one could surmise that finally, audiences would get an insight into what it is that really makes 007 tick. The film certainly delivers in this regard and in several others,, including all the elements that makes for a great film. Namely brilliant dialogue, to name just one.

The unapologetic brute force of Craig’s Bond is a huge part of what makes Casino Royale such a memorable comeback for the franchise, and part of the reason why the film is my favourite Bond to date.

I will not drop any spoilers for those yet to watch the film but I will say this: ‘The first 20 minutes is brilliant, and you’ll be glad to learn that the rest of the movie continues as such‘.

Have you seen it? If so, you know it’s the best ,don’t you?

Happy Film Loving.
