HOME AGAIN (2017): It’s…

Home Again (2017), Reece Witherspoon
Home Again (2017), Reece Witherspoon

Home Again is a comedy/romance that’s written/directed by Hallie Meyers-Shyer; daughter of popular romantic comedy filmmaker Nancy Meyers (It’s Complicated (2009), Something’s Gotta Give (2003), The Holiday (2006), etc).

The reason I was drawn to this film is simple – Reese Witherspoon and the chance to see her in a fun-ish movie. However, by the end of Meyers-Shyer’s story about an LA single mother, one whose life takes an unexpected turn when she allows three young guys to move in with her, I was unfortunately left wanting.

I found myself feeling as though absolutely nothing had happened in the movie, even though I’d just sat and watched it for 1.5 hours. I promise that I’m not deliberately trying to sound like a stereotypically male film fan who doesn’t like romantic comedies because ‘nothing happens.’ in them. There’s just very little that’s memorable or particularly noteworthy to report. I really did not love this movie. I also wouldn’t say I hate it. I simply wish it were better, much better.

If I tried to think especially hard about what’s good about Home Again, I’d say that I enjoyed looking at all the footage of sunny LA. Especially since at time of writing, I’m personally in the midst of an annoyingly grey winter. I was also inspired by the positive attitude of Witherspoon’s character’s love interest.

Last but not least, I didn’t completely dislike some of the sweet and touching moments in this film. After all, what kind of person hates a sweet touching moment, right?

All in all, Home Again is quite forgettable. Perhaps watch it if I’ve somehow accidentally sold it to you – which I doubt.

SHOT CALLER (2017): New Trailer From Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Lake Bell, Jon Bernthal…

Shot Caller (2017), Nikolaj Coster-Waldau

Shot Caller is the new crime/thriller starring Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Lake Bell, Jon Bernthal and Max Greenfield.

Directed by Ric Roman Waugh, Coster-Waldau is a newly released prison gangster who’s forced by the leaders of his gang to orchestrate a major crime on the streets of Southern California.

The initial trailer for this film didn’t look particularly great. Plus, I’ve seen enough prison drama movies to be able to guess quite accurately, how things will progress.

If nothing else, this movie will be a good reminder of just how quickly one’s life can change because of one mistake. As a fan of Mr Coster-Waldau and Bell, I’m willing to give Shot Caller a chance.

HOME AGAIN (2017): New Trailer From Reese Witherspoon, Michael Sheen, Nat Wolff, Candace Bergman…

Home Again (2017), Reece Witherspoon

Read my spoiler-free movie review of  (Home Again (2017)

In Reese Witherspoon’s latest movie, she plays a single mom in Los Angeles who allows three young guys to move in with her, and things take an unexpected turn.

Written/directed by Hallie Meyers-Shyer; Michael Sheen, Candace Bergman, Pico Alexander, NatWolff and Alex Alcheh also star.

I want to watch this because I like Witherspoon, and it would be good to see her in a more fun (ish) movie like this one, a comedy/drama/ romance.

Home Again Release Dates: September 8th, 2017 (US); September 29th, 2017 (UK)…

THE SECRET LIFE OF PETS (2016): Fun, Funny, Cute…

The Secret Life Of Pets (2016), Gidget (Jenny Slate)
The Secret Life Of Pets (2016), Gidget (Jenny Slate)

Initially, based on all The Secret Life Of Pets trailers that were released over the last several months, I was certain I’d identify most with Chloe. But then, I saw just how much of a badass the cute, fluffy Pomeranian Gidget is. I’m sure I’m not ‘reaching’ too hard here but my own name does start with a G.

Now that you agree about Gidget and me being so alike, let’s move on. I’ve seen plenty of Kevin Hart’s stand-up comedy, a truth that makes me super familiar with his very recognisable voice. I wasn’t sure that his voice was the best fit for a cute, fluffy, gangster white rabbit. However, considering where the story goes, I see why he was chosen. I barely forgot that I was listening to Hart deliver his character’s lines. But I really enjoyed the story, so it didn’t remove too much from the good time I was most certainly having.

I adore the cute animals, especially Max, Gidget and Tiberius. I also  particularly enjoyed Louis C.K.’s voice work.

The Secret Life Of Pets is fun, funny and very, very cute. So, if you haven’t already, watch it.

THE SECRET LIFE OF PETS (2016) New Trailer With Kevin Hart As The Voice Of ‘Snowball…’

The Secret Life of Pets (2016), Kevin Hart (Snowball)
The Secret Life of Pets (2016), Kevin Hart (Snowball)

You loved the teaser trailer for The Secret Life of Pets, Now it’s time for a character trailer, featuring Kevin Hart as ‘cute little bunny,’ Snowball.

I definitely found the first trailer more amusing. I’m also not sure that Kevin Hart sounds quite right as the voice of Snowball. But of course, we shall see once the movie arrives. What are you thoughts and feelings? I wonder.

The Secret Life Of Pets Release Date(s): June 30th, 2016 (UK); July 8th, 2016 (US)…
