Starring Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth, Charlee Fraser and Tom Burke; Furiosa – A Mad Max Saga is the latest action/adventure/sci-fi from writer/director George Miller.

This time the focus is on the origin story of rebel warrior Furiosa, before she meets sand teams up with Mad Max.

Hello, beautiful chaos!

This great-looking vengeance movie trailer has me ready to see Taylor-Joy as the super angry heroine Furiosa. I’m excited to watch her journey to serve Dr. Dementus (Hemsworth in a prosthetic nose) his comeuppance.

There’s got to be no way this won’t deliver, right? Especially with such a talented cast and a wonderful trailer that has both visuals and moments of dialogue that have me yelping with delight and feeling grateful for my senses.

Furiosa: I want them back. I WANT THEM BACK!!!

Dr. Dementus: Where are you going, so full of hope? THERE IS NO HOPE!!!

Aren’t both lines just such perfect moments of dialogue? The first has me more than ready to see Furiosa execute her plans, and the second has me wondering if I’ll end up feeling a little sorry for Dementus. Especially after hearing the feeling in the brilliant way that Hemsworth delivers the above line.

No doubt I’ll take in this trailer plenty more times before the movie is released.

Goran D. Kleut, CJ. Bloomfield, Rahel Romahn, Nathan Jones, Angus Sampson, Lachy Hulme, Alyla Browne, Daniel Webber and Nat Buchanan also star.

THE MENU (2022): The Things I Liked…

There are many good things about director Mark Mylod’s comedy/horror/thriller, The Menu

The cast is fantastic, and the performances faultless, which makes sense since one can hardly go wrong with John Leguizamo, Anya Taylor-Joy, Ralph Feinnes, Hong Chau, Janet McTeer and Nicholas Hoult on the same call sheet. Especially considering the delightfully rhythmic dialogue plus the unexpected twists and turns.

Mylod’s story about a young couple who travel to a remote island to eat at an exclusive restaurant, but end up faced with shocking surprises is fun and will leave you with plenty to talk about afterwards.

The topics I had to discuss immediately once the end credits rolled included Anya Taylor-Joy’s Margot character being my favourite. I enjoyed Margot’s disposition and every word that came out of her mouth. Hong Chau’s Elsa is also fun for similar reasons to Margot, but undoubtedly in part because of her memorable outfit.

The Menu does well at keeping the audience far from comfortable from the beginning because of the mystery surrounding what the evening has in store for both the audience and the characters. Yet, the part-horror characterisation is not nightmare-inducing. What it is, is a memorable movie experience.

I’m convinced that The Menu might have benefited from being a mini-series rather than a feature film. Specifically because some moments felt inadequately fleshed out, resulting in my inability to buy into a handful of the decisions made by some characters.

Admittedly, I also eventually tired of Feinnes’s Chef Slowik character, distinctly how his pretentious and subsequently unlikable qualities manifest when he demands the attention of his guests.

Watch The Menu because it’s fun. Lastly, the things it gets right will probably leave you feeling glad that the movie exists.

LAST NIGHT IN SOHO (2021): New Trailer From Anya Taylor-Joy, Thomasin McKenzie, Jessie Mei Li…

Last Night in Soho (2021), Anya Taylor-Joy, Focus Features

Directed by Edgar Wright of Baby Driver (2017), Last Night in Soho is a new drama/horror/mystery starring Anya Taylor-Joy, Thomasin McKenzie and Jessie Mei Li.

It’s the story of a young girl (McKenzie), passionate about fashion design, who finds herself mysteriously able to enter the 1960s.

While there, she encounters her idol, a dazzling wannabe singer (Taylor-Joy). Only 1960s London isn’t quite what it seems.

The part-horror categorisation makes me nervous, but I remain curious. Who knew that Taylor-Joy had such a beautiful singing voice? Not me.

Here’s to hoping there are more pleasant surprises to look forward to.

Diana Rigg, Matt Smith, Rita Tushingham, Terence Stamp, Margaret Nolan, Lisa McGrillis, James Phelps, Synnove Karlsen, Oliver Phelps, Katrina Vasilieva, Michael Jibson and Kassius Nelson also star.

Last Night in Soho Release Dates: October 22nd, 2021 (US); October 29th, 2021 (UK)…

THE QUEEN’S GAMBIT (2020): New Trailer From Anya Taylor-Joy, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Bill Camp…

Based on the novel by Walter Tevis, The Queen’s Gambit is a new Netflix mini-series about a female chess prodigy named Beth Harmon (Anya Taylor-Joy).

Also starring Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Bill Camp, Moses Ingram and Harry Melling, the story starts with Beth as an eight year-old orphan who’s quiet, sullen, and seemingly unremarkable. That is, until she plays her first game of chess.

I’m mostly interested in Taylor-Joy’s performance. I’m also curious about Beth’s journey from an ‘unremarkable child’ to a chess superstar. Especially as I wonder what her life might have been like had she not discovered the game.

Chloe Pirrie, Annabeth Kelly, Marielle Heller, Janina Elkin, and Jacob Fortune-Lloyd also star.

The Queen’s Gambit Release Dates: October 23rd, 2020 (US & UK)…

THE NEW MUTANTS (2020): New Trailer Starring Anya Taylor-Joy, Maisie Williams, Alice Braga, Antonio Banderas…

The New Mutants (2020), Anya Taylor-Joy, 20th Century Fox

The New Mutants is an action/thriller about five young mutants held in a secret facility against their will.

Directed by Josh Boone; starring Anya Taylor-Joy, Maisie Williams, Alice Braga and Antonio Banderas, the young mutants must  fight to escape their past sins and save themselves.

If you’re thinking, ‘wait, didn’t this get released two years ago?‘ The original trailer was released in 2018, and since then, the release date has been pushed back to this year. If you’re also wondering what this trailer has to do with X-MEN, the new mutants are a team of mutant heroes comprised of the first graduates from Charles Xavier’s (Professor X) school for young mutants, so the answer is really, everything.

I’m interested because of Taylor-Joy and the X-men link. Perhaps what the X-Men franchise has been needing outside of a break is some fresh young faces.

Charlie Heaton, Blu Hunt, Happy Anderson, Henry Zaga, Sarah Bennani, Colbi Gannett, Max Schochet, Tony Saquett, Thomas Kee and ickey Gilmore also star.

The New Mutants Release Dates: 28th August 2020 (US)…
