Isn’t it great when a promising trailer from one of your favourite directors lands when you weren’t expecting it?

The director is Jordan Peele and the movie is Nope. A scary but fun-looking horror/mystery/thriller starring Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, Steven Yeun and Barbie Ferreira.

The question going through my mind right now is ‘What kind of terrifying ride, likely involving aliens is this story about to take us on?’ I want to find out. I’m in for the special effects and to discover whether we’ll even get to see the entity causing all the terror.

‘What’s a bad miracle? They got a word for that?‘

I just love the above words and the way Kaluuya’s character delivers them, with that perfectly placed pause in the middle.

Michael Wincott, Donna Mills, Terry Notary, Jennifer Lafleur, Brandon Perea, Sophia Coto, Ryan W. Garcia, Andrew Patrick Ralston and Gloria Cole also star.

Producer Ryan Coogler and director Shaka King’s biography, Judas and the Black Messiah has a second trailer.

Starring Daniel Kaluuya, Lakeith Stanfield, Jesse Plemons and Dominique Fishback; Judas and the Black Messiah is the story of the fateful betrayal of Fred Hampton, Chairman of the Illinois Black Panther Party.

I’m going to need a box of tissues with this one. And this magnificent cast; Stanfield, Kaluuya, Fishback and Plemons; I cannot wait.

If it wasn’t already clear, because of all the movies that had to be moved from last year to this one, 2021 is going to be quite the year for film. I hope you’re ready.

Judas and the Black Messiah tells the story of Fred Hampton, Chairman of the Illinois Black Panther Party, and his fateful betrayal by FBI informant William O’Neal.

Co directed by Ryan Coogler and Shaka King this very promising movie stars Daniel Kaluuya, LaKeith Stanfield and Jesse Plemons.

It’s official, this is my favourite week of movie trailer releases in 2020. First we had Ratched (2020) a couple of days ago and now this. I’ve already watched this trailer countless times and I cannot wait to see what looks like a superb performance from Kaluuya and Stanfield. Two brilliant actors I last saw together in Jordan Peele’s massive hit, Get Out (2017).

This is the kind of movie that I imagine will be really great to see in a movie theatre.

Daniel Kaluuya, Chloë Sevigny and Jodie Turner-Smith’s latest drama is Melina Matsoukas directed Queen & Sugar.

The story centres around a young couple who are having a pleasant evening on a first date. On the drive home a police officer pulls them over and all is changed…

I was almost certain about the way this trailer was going to unfold. Especially based on the officer’s disposition. How wrong I was.

It looks to me as though Kaluuya’s character saw himself dead and decided ‘Not today. Not here. Not like this.’ I’ve certainly had those precise thoughts – but definitely not during such a ‘life or death’ predicament. Excited to find out how the rather unexpected turn of events plays out.

Written by James Frey and Lena Waithe, additional cast includes Sturgill Simpson, Kenneth Kynt Bryan, Dominic Cancelliere, Colby Boothman, Scott Rapp and Justin Carmouche.

Read my spoiler-free movie review of  Black Panther (2018).

Directed by Ryan Coogler (Creed 2015) and starring Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o and Angela Bassett, Black Panther is Marvel’s latest comic book superhero movie.  As is the case with all super hero movies, Black Panther is about a hero rising to defend many from an outside enemy.  Boseman is T’Challa, the new ruler of the advanced kingdom of Wakanda and it’s up to him to prevent his land from being torn apart…

My general fatigue where superhero movies are concerned will need to simmer down a little just so I can enjoy this movie. I love how ‘queenly’ and in charge Lupita looks, especially at 1:11 in the trailer. Boseman is an actor we can all rely on – along with the rest of the Black Panther cast,  so yes, I’m very excited indeed. And since February is my birthday month, I’ll consider this film as the personal gift to me that it is… in my head.

How very far away February suddenly seems.
