In new comedy / horror Little Monsters, protecting young children from a sudden outbreak of zombies is the job of a washed-up musician, a teacher and a kids show personality.

From writer director, Abe Forsythe; key cast includes Lupita Nyong’o, Josh Gad, Stephen Peacocke…

The promise of humour has me interested. I also want to see how well Nyong’o does at selling her character. Then there’s the cuteness of the adorable little kids. I need to see how many of them will cry because I’m almost certain that I’d have been howling immediately.

Kat Stewart, Nadia Townsend, Alexander England, Marshall Napier, Henry Nixon, Rahel Romahn, Jason Chong, Adele Vuko and M.J. Kokolis also star.

Little Monsters Release Dates: November 15th, 2019 (UK)…

Star Wars – The Rise Of Skywalker (2019), Daisy Ridley

Starring Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Lupita Nyong’o and Adam Driver, the trailer for Star Wars – The Rise Of Skywalker, the final chapter of the Star Wars saga is here.

Co-written and directed by J.J. Abrams, other key cast includes Mark Hamill, Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson, Carrie Fisher, Dominic Monaghan and Keri Russell…

Episode 9 may well be called ‘the final chapter’ but there’s without a doubt, many, many more Star wars movies to come.

A very cool trailer, of course. Also, that great jump by Ridley’s Rey really had me wanting to sign up for a gymnastics class. Granted it was a fleeting thought but for a second there, nothing was more true in my world.

Us (2019), Lupita N’Yongo

From writer / director Jordan Peele, new horror / thriller Us is a story of uninvited visitors who bring tension and chaos to a family vacationing at a beach house.

Key cast includes Lupita N’Yongo, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Elisabeth Moss, Anna Diop…

I’m definitely in for the intriguing story concept. I particularly can’t wait to see the actors playing two characters each.

All because of how much I enjoyed Get Out (2017), just reading the words ‘tension’ and ‘chaos’ have me excited about the journey Peele has in store for his audience.

Kara Hayward, Winston Duke, Shahadi Wright Joseph and Noelle Sheldon also star.

Us Release Dates: March 15th, 2019 (US & UK)…

BLACK PANTHER (2018): The Things I Liked…

Black Panther (2018), Chadwick Boseman
Black Panther (2018), Chadwick Boseman

Black Panther is a traditional superhero movie in the way that its’ a fun, partly humorous, definitely colourful and action-packed visual experience. It’s the classic story of a hero rising to defend the many from a destructive outside force. This time, instead of the main location being somewhere that’s recognisably the United States, the main setting is a fictional African nation named Wakanda.

Directed by Ryan Coogler of Creed (2015) and Fruitvale Station (2013), including all that this movie means in terms of representation, Black Panther is also memorable for me thanks to the great visuals and the ways in which the story is that little bit different from other superhero movies. There’s also the undeniable cool factor thats courtesy – in part of the stunt work, and shooting style.

I liked all the performances and particularly enjoyed seeing Andy Serkis in a role I wasn’t expecting him to play. The smart, empowered and powerful female characters were another highlight.

In terms of what’s next for the franchise, the way Black Panther ends certainly has me very intrigued about how the follow-up will unfold. Particularly since I’m  someone who’s quite aware of the nature of humans when it comes to power and resources.

No doubt you’ve probably already seen this one but in case you haven’t, watch it because it’s a good and fun… and Marvel.

BLACK PANTHER (2018): New Trailer From Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Daniel Kaluuya, Lupita Nyong’o…

Black Panther (2018), Lupita Nyong'o
Black Panther (2018), Lupita Nyong’o

Directed by Ryan Coogler (Creed 2015) and starring Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o and Angela Bassett, Black Panther is Marvel’s latest comic book superhero movie.  As is the case with all super hero movies, Black Panther is about a hero rising to defend many from an outside enemy.  Boseman is T’Challa, the new ruler of the advanced kingdom of Wakanda and it’s up to him to prevent his land from being torn apart…

My general fatigue where superhero movies are concerned will need to simmer down a little just so I can enjoy this movie. I love how ‘queenly’ and in charge Lupita looks, especially at 1:11 in the trailer. Boseman is an actor we can all rely on – along with the rest of the Black Panther cast,  so yes, I’m very excited indeed. And since February is my birthday month, I’ll consider this film as the personal gift to me that it is… in my head.

How very far away February suddenly seems.

Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Forest Whitaker, Florence Kasumba and Andy Serkis also star.

Black Panther Release Dates: February 16th, 2018 (UK & US); February 15th, 2018 (GER)…

THE JUNGLE BOOK (2016): So Much To Love…

The Jungle Book (2016)
The Jungle Book (2016)

Many people probably love Jon Favreau because of what he’s done with Iron Man. But my appreciation of the actor/ writer/ director/ producer, etc. first began when he played Monica’s billionaire Ultimate Fighting Champion boyfriend in Friends. Then I saw him as an a**hole husband in one of my favourite comedies, I Love You, Man (2009). As great as his work was in both those roles, I didn’t  really ‘fall deeply in love’ with Favreau’s talents until a ‘little’ foodie movie that he wrote, produced, directed and starred in called Chef (2014).

As you may be aware, I’ve reached a reasonable level of fatigue where superhero movies are concerned. Therefore I haven’t really been keeping up with Favreau’s work in the genre, though I did watch the first Ironman movie and maybe the second. Nevertheless, Favreau was a big part of the reason I was excited to watch the live-action version of The Jungle Book (2016)If you’ve seen it, you know how well the movie turned out. There’s just so much to love. For example, Idris Elba’s excellent voice work in his role as Shere Khan, how generally well thought out the movie is, the beautiful special effects and the fact that before this movie, I hadn’t ever thought about how animals perceive fire.

Whether you’re familiar with The Jungle Book story, a fan of Favreau’s other work or not, watch this movie because it’s good. It’s good, I tell you!

Queen Of Katwe (2016), Lupita N’Yongo, Madina Malwanga

Starring Lupita N’Yongo, David Oyelowo and Madina Nalwanga, Queen of Katwe is the true story of Phiona Mutesi, a Ugandan chess player and one of the first titled female players in Ugandan chess history…

I love stories about people doing extraordinary things, whatever their age. It’s even better if the achievement is greater than what most people believe to be possible. For that would be reminder to never let another person dictate what is possible for you or anyone else who dares to have a dream. I know very little about chess and chess has a small amount to do with the reason I’ll be tuning in.

Ntaire Guma Mbaho Mwine and Russel Savadier also star with Mira Nair as director.

Epic looking and with great trailer music, especially at the beginning. Something tells me that writer / director J.J. Abrams is going to make serious fans very proud indeed.

Time for me to get moving and watching the previous films if I don’t want to be completely clueless for what is likely the biggest film event of the year if not of all time.
