HEDDA (2025): New Trailer Starring Tessa Thompson, Tom Bateman, Imogen Poots…

From director Nia DaCosta, starring Tessa Thompson, Imogen Poots and Tom Bateman, Hedda is the story of a woman whose quietly suffocating present life gets interrupted…

That before you were domesticated, you were like fire

I thought the above was a compliment at first. Now I’m not so sure. Nevertheless, I can’t help feeling that being ‘like fire’ sounds super badass.

The dialogue, clearly, and the cinematography have my attention. I’m hoping the story is also engaging and satisfying. I mean, Hedda is based on the well-regarded play, Hedda Gabler, by Henrik Ibsen, after all.

Are you familiar with Ibsen’s book? It sounds like the kind of play I may have heard about in college.

Nicholas Pinnock, Nina Hoss, Finbar Lynch, Mirren Mack, Jamael Westman, Saffron Hocking, Jack Barry, Kathryn Hunter and Sam Hoare also star.

Hedda Release Dates: October 29th, 2025 (US & UK)…

CANDYMAN (2020): New Trailer From Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Tony Todd, Teyonah Parris…

Candyman (1992) was a horror hit about a murderous soul with a hook for a hand. A dark soul that can be summoned simply by a person saying his name in the mirror five times.

Starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Tony Todd, Teyonah Parris, plus, co-written by Jordan Peele and directed by Nia DaCosta; we have a new Candyman story for 2021. This time the dark murderous soul returns to the now-gentrified Chicago neighbourhood where it all began.

I remember watching the original Candyman movie, but I’d forgotten about the bees. I don’t believe the original film gave me nightmares. However, I may have blocked out such unpleasantness from memory.

This trailer looks good, DaCosta is a promising new director, and Jordan Peele’s involvement can only mean good things. I therefore can’t wait to see how this turns out. I’ll be watching as early as possible in the day. That way, by nighttime, hopefully, I’d have forgotten about the scenes that have nightmare-inducing powers.

Colman Domingo, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, Rebecca Spence, Cassie Kramer, Brian King, Miriam Moss, Avery Moss, Nadia Simms and Hannah Love Jones also star.

Candyman Release Dates: August 27th, 2021 (US & UK)…

LITTLE WOODS (2018): New Trailer From Lily James, Tessa Thompson…

Little Woods (2018), Lily James, Tessa Thompson

Little Woods is the latest from Tessa Thompson and Lily James.

Written/directed by Nia DaCosta, it’s a modern western/crime/drama about sisters Ollie and Deb who are driven to work outside the law to better their lives.

Ollie has been helping people in her town to access Canadian health care and medication. Eventually the authorities sense that something’s going on and Ollie decides to quit, except, then comes a desperate plea for help from her sister.

I definitely didn’t see the interesting pairing of Thompson and James coming. I’m looking forward to learning how the story unfolds because sibling dynamics are often intriguing. Also, I could be wrong, but something tells me that there might just be some tragedy in store.

Luke Kirby, James Badge Dale, Lance Reddick, Elizabeth Maxwell, Luci Christian, Lawrence Varnado, and Alexis West also star.

Little Woods Release Dates: April 19th, 2019 (US)…
