A new unexpectedly refreshing trailer just landed. One that has a very promising cast that happens to be largely female.

Directed by Nia DaCosta, The Marvels stars Brie Larson, Iman Vellani, Teyonah Parris and Samuel L. Jackson in a follow-up to 2019’s Captain Marvel.

Outside of the rather recent Wakanda Forever (2022), it’s been a while since I committed to watching more than just the trailer of new superhero movies. Today however, I find myself curious about the dynamic between the younger and the more established female superheroes in this trailer. I mean, I’m certainly a fan of Iman Vellan and the energy she brings to her role as as Ms. Marvel.

If there’s a chance for a new superhero movie to pull me back in, perhaps it’s this one. Has this trailer had a similar effect on you?

Zawe Ashton, Park Seo-joon, Mohan Kapur, Caroline Simonnet Kamara Benjamin Barnett, Michael Oladele and Tony McCarthy also star.

The Marvels Release Dates: November 10th, 2023 (US); November 2023 (UK)…

WANDAVISION (2021): Episodes 3 & 4 – The Things I Liked…

Following my disappointment with episodes one and two of Marvel’s WandaVision, I decided to wait for the release of episode four before diving back in to see how much more engaging it gets.

Even though episode three was not great, for me, until the last few minutes, I’m glad to report that the fourth episode is much better and more reflective of what I’d hoped for with one and two.

The cast is fantastic; from Teyonah Parris, to Paul Bettany, Katheryn Hahn, Kat Dennings and of course, Elizabeth Olsen; who emits pain through her eyes so very well.

Am I still mad that the first two episodes and most of the third felt like a waste of my time? Only a little; especially since, unlike myself, many readers of the comic books like them.

My hope now is that with the episodes yet to come, things can only get better.

CANDYMAN (2020): New Trailer From Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Tony Todd, Teyonah Parris…

Candyman (1992) was a horror hit about  a murderous soul with a hook for a hand. A dark soul that can be summoned simply by a person saying his name in the mirror five times.

Starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Tony Todd, Teyonah Parris, plus, co-written by Jordan Peele and directed by Nia DaCosta; we have a new Candyman story for 2021. This time the dark murderous soul returns to the now-gentrified Chicago neighbourhood where it all began.

I remember watching the original Candyman movie but I’d forgotten about the bees. I don’t believe the original movie gave me nightmares. However, I may have blocked out such unsavoury events from memory.

This trailer looks good, DaCosta is a promising new director and Jordan Peele’s involvement can only mean good things. I therefore can’t wait to see how this turns out. I’ll be watching as early as possible in the day. That way, by nighttime, hopefully I’d have forgotten about the scenes that have the potential to induce nightmares.

Colman Domingo, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, Rebecca Spence, Cassie Kramer, Brian King, Miriam Moss, Avery Moss, Nadia Simms and Hannah Love Jones also star.

Candyman Release Dates: August 27th, 2021 (US & UK)…
