THE WHITE LOTUS – SEASON 3 (2025): The Things I Liked…

I’m up to date with all three seasons of The White Lotus, the HBO series about the lives and shenanigans of the guests and staff of a high-end hotel.

Seasons one and two were great, and my favourite of the three. In this new third instalment, the performances are fantastic, as expected. However, I lost patience at certain points due to a slower pace – and because I didn’t find some of the character stories as engaging as I’d have liked.

Further still, in the first and second seasons, I found the social commentary about the dynamics between the rich and the far-from-rich more poignant and interesting. That’s not to say this season isn’t worth your time if you’re curious. The acting is truly great, after all.

At the time of this post, the season three finale is still a few days out. Nevertheless, I doubt the result will change how I feel about this instalment compared to the first two. I’m happy to be wrong, of course. In fact, I’d prefer it.

Bring on Sunday’s finale, and Season Four!

Have you seen The White Lotus? What first comes to mind when you think of each season? My spoiler-free thoughts for each are as follows:

Season One: The delightful pace and chaos of Episode Four

Season Two: Jennifer Coolidge’s super memorable character and why, deservedly, plenty more people know the name Leo Woodall.

Season Three: Jason Isaacs’s, Sam Nivola and Patrick Schwarzenegger’s performances. Can I say, chef’s kiss? I just did.

MOXIE (2021): New Trailer From Amy Poehler, Josephine Langford, Josie Totah, Marcia Gay Harden, Ike Barinholtz…

Directed by Amy Poehler; starring Hadley Robinson, Josephine Langford, Marcia Gay Harden and Poehler herself, Moxie is a new comedy/drama about a teenager who publishes a zine that sparks a school-wide, coming-of-rage revolution.

Additional key cast includes Alycia Pascual-Pena, Clark Gregg, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Josie Totah and Ike Barinholtz.

At first I thought this was a new Netflix series, not that I’m mad it’s a movie; one directed by Poehler no less. I’m in for the Poehler experience and the clearly talented young cast, plus the pertinent subject matter.

Also, I rather like the word moxie, meaning energy, courage or determination. A word that makes me think of Captain America. He must have used it in one of the movies.

Sydney Park, Kevin Dorff, Anjelika Washington, Nico Hiraga, Ji-young Yoo, Lauren Tsai and Gracie Lawrence also star.

Moxie Release Dates: March 3rd, 2021 Netflix, (US & UK)…

STUCK IN LOVE (2012): Family, Love & Writing

Stuck In Love (2012), Logan Lerman, Lily Collins
Stuck In Love (2012), Logan Lerman, Lily Collins

Written/directed by Josh Boone, and starring Greg Kinnear, Jennifer Connelly, Lilly Collins, Kristen Bell, Logan Lerman and Nat Wolff; Stuck In Love is a well-acted family drama.

Watch it for a look into a year in the life of a family that consists of a successful Writer, his ex-wife, their teenage children and particularly, how all parties navigate through their own experiences of love.

Stuck In Love is not too emotionally taxing. Actually, that may depend on how closely you relate to the character you identify with the most. Nevertheless, it can be categorised as a pleasant watch.

There’s also potential value for any writers, aspiring writers and anyone generally curious about other families. I know I always am.

My favourite part is all the scenes Kristen Bell is in because, in the best way,  her fun-to-watch character is unlike any I’ve ever seen her play before.
