THE INTERN (2015): For The Comedy & Unexpected Friendship…

Written/directed by Nancy Meyers, the person behind other popular and well-executed comedies such as The Holiday (2006) and Something’s Gotta Give (2003); I had high hopes for The Intern.

Starring Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway, my favourite thing about Meyers’ movie has to be the story of the unexpected friendship between De Niro’s senior intern character and the successful, young online fashion business founder played by Hathaway.

A big part of what makes the relationship between the two great to watch is De Niro’s portrayal of Ben, the comic timing, and particularly, the kind of person Ben represents.

An inspiring story of young people in charge doing what they love and doing it well is also what The Intern is about. I tuned in because the mood for a good light comedy struck and good is definitely what I found.

If you were after more reasons to watch, there’s the New York City setting, good soundtrack and the other cast members. Namely Zack Pearlman’s character Davis who’s particularly fun.

Adam DeVine, Christina Scherer, Anders Holm, Rene Russo and JoJo Kushner also star.

Watch it if you’re curious and because it’s good.

JOY (2015): Great Story, Performances…

Joy (2015), Jennifer Lawrence

A determined woman taking charge of her destiny and going after her dreams – especially when no one else believes; that for me is the subject matter of David O. Russell’s Joy; the movie that just got Jennifer Lawrence another Best Actress Golden Globe win.

In Lawrence’s third movie with Oscar-winning director, O’Russell, she’s joined by his other two favourite actors, Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro. There’s also Isabella Rossellini, Virginia Madsen, Elizabeth Rohm and Edgar Ramirez; all of whom deliver notable performances. I found Rossellinni and Madsen’s characters particularly entertaining

The journey you get to go on in the story of Joy will make you laugh, cry and cheer. As you do at least two of the above, you may also notice the beauty in the cinematography, filming style, dialogue and the perfect pace of this movie. All these elements combined make Joy a lot of fun to watch. Another plus is the many useful lessons for aspiring business people with big, lofty ideas and dreams.

Watch it because it’s good and because you know that making it in life and business can be hard. but the question is, do you really know just how hard? Joy, who comes in the shape of a seriously badass Jennifer Lawrence is happy to show you, as well as remind you that it’s never really over until you decide.

I loved the teaser trailer for David O. Russell’s latest film Joy, when I saw it a few months ago. I’m happy to report that the latest trailer is the perfect tease and even more exciting.

Who doesn’t love to watch the perceived underdog take charge and silence the doubters with legendary action?

I’m looking forward to everything, including the comedy, dialogue and… absolutely everything!

Writer/Director Nancy Meyers’s new movie The Intern stars Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway.

I didn’t write about the first trailer because it didn’t have me excited. But the latest one is definitely preferable. It’s the young female entrepreneur element that appeals to me most. That and the generally trustworthy cast that includes Rene Russo.
