Elián is the story of Elian Gonzalez, the 5-year-old Cuban boy plucked from the Florida Straits on Thanksgiving Day in 1999.
Several others, including Elian’s mother, are believed to have perished at sea, leaving Elian in the middle of a custody battle with his Cuban father and Miami-based relatives on opposite sides.
The name Elian Gonzalez is one I only really know of because ‘superior comic’ Dave Chappelle mentioned him in one of his standup specials. I want to find out what’s happened since that fateful Thanksgiving day in 1999.
