Cynthia Nixon, a.k.a. Miranda Hobbes of Sex & The City  (1998-2004) is playing celebrated American poet, Emily Dickinson.

Directed by Terence Davies, A Quiet Passion tells the story of Dickinson’s early years as a school girl and later when she becomes a recluse and an unrecognised artist.

This one I want to see to learn about the strong, independent and smart Dickinson. I’d also love to watch Nixon in another role I can add to my list of  her best work.

Jennifer Ehle, Duncan Duff, Keith Carradine and Jodhi May also star.

A Quiet Passion Release Dates: April 7th, 2017 (UK); April  14th, 2017 (US)…

ALL NIGHTER (2017): The Thing I Liked…

All Nighter (2017), J.K. Simmons, Emile Hirsch
All Nighter (2017), J.K. Simmons, Emile Hirsch

What I liked most about All Nighter is Xosha Roquemore’s version of a drunk party girl. Director Gavin Wiesen’s, story about a workaholic father (J.K. Simmons) who teams up with his daughter’s awkward ex-boyfriend (Emile Hirsch) to find her is not as fun and entertaining as the films trailer led me to believe.

One of my early thoughts as I watched was, ‘This is going nowhere fast.’ A thought soon followed by, ‘All the acting isn’t bad, but this film is boring’. Ultimately, All Nighter just plods along in a manner that had me failing to care about the whereabouts of the missing daughter (Analeigh Tipton). What made the experience even more underwhelming overall is the easy and relatively obvious explanation for the daughter’s whereabouts.

If you were thinking that All Nighter might be a boys’ adventure with a splash of The Hangover (2009) vibes, it’s barely that. More than anything, the film is about a workaholic father’s friendship with his daughter’s ex-boyfriend.

Essentially, if there’s nothing better on and you’re in the mood for an awkward comedy with very few good laughs, then sure, watch it. Otherwise, step away, friend.

THREE BILLBOARDS OUTSIDE EBBING, MISSOURI (2017): New Trailer Starring Frances McDormand, Woody Harrelson, Sam Rockwell…

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017): Frances McDormand
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017): Frances McDormand

The trailer for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri may start slow, but it only gets better and better, so stick with it.

Starring Woody Harrelson, Frances McDormand, Sam Rockwell and Caleb Landry Jones, this one is a dark comedy from the writer/director of the rather memorable In Bruges (2008) – Martin McDonagh.

The story of  Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri centres around a mother who takes matters into her own hands with her local law enforcement representatives, after progress stalls in her daughter’s murder investigation.

Wasn’t that a good one? I forgot how much of a fan of McDormand’s work I am.

Lucas Hedges, John Hawkes, Peter Dinklage and Abbie Cornish also star.

JUNGLE (2017): New Trailer From Daniel Radcliffe, Thomas Kretschmann, Alex Russell…

Jungle (2017), Daniel Radcliffe

In Jungle, Daniel Radcliffe and Alex Russell are in a group of friends who trek into the Bolivian jungle with a fraudulent guide (Thomas Kretschmann).

Directed by Greg McLean, Jungle is based on a true survival story and adapted from the book by Yossi Chinsberg.

I’m always happy to watch a movie that has people venturing into the dangerous jungle; I just wouldn’t voluntarily do the same, ever, because my imagination already works too hard conjuring up images of all the scary creatures that live there.
