What They Had stars Hilary Swank, Michael Shannon, Bythe Danner and Josh Lucas, in a story about a woman who returns home to confront her past after her Alzheimer’s-stricken mother wanders into a blizzard.

What They Had is written/directed by Elizabeth Chomko.

Considering the great cast, I’m quite sure this will be a good movie. The question for me is how badly I’ll want to see it, bearing in mind the dark subject matter, and having already watched Still Alice (2014), a good movie about dementia.

Blythe Danner playing a key character is a draw. I’ve liked her ever since Meet the Parents (2000).

Taissa Farmiga, Aimee Garcia, Robert Forster, Jay Montepare and Anna Kabis also star.

BREAKING IN (2018): The Thing I Liked…

Breaking In (2018), Gabrielle Union
Breaking In (2018), Gabrielle Union

Breaking In, a movie about a determined mother working hard to outsmart four criminals during a home invasion, is one I watched to be entertained/thrilled. And entertained I was, to a degree.

I like the film’s star, Gabriele Union, so I enjoyed watching her act, but overall, Breaking In is definitely not the best of its type.

Director James McTeigue’s film is missing ‘the memorable’ element and the line ‘You picked the wrong house’ absolutely doesn’t count. Even though the film did enough to keep me watching till the end, there are really no scenes so thrilling that they stick out.

Aside from the satisfaction of seeing the bad guys lose, because who doesn’t want that? My favourite thing about Breaking In is that it cements my decision to avoid ever living in a house far bigger than I could ever need.

Compared to Halle Berry’s Kidnap (2017), I’d say Breaking In is better, mostly because the lead actor’s acting and dialogue are more convincing.

Watch it if you like Union or any of the other cast members enough. Or perhaps you just want to see how the story plays out.

MID90S (2018): New Trailer From Director Jonah Hill, Starring Katherine Waterston, Lucas Hedges, Jerrod Carmichael, Sunny Suljic…

Mid90s (2018), Sunny Suljic
Mid90s (2018), Sunny Suljic

Written/directed by Jonah Hill, Mid90s is a new comedy about an LA-based boy growing up in the 90s.

The film’s key cast includes Katherine WaterstonJerrod Carmichael, Lucas Hedges and Sunny Suljic.

I can’t really say that what’s shown in this trailer speaks to my ‘growing up in the 90’s’ experience (except for some of the iconography). Nevertheless, as a fan of all of Hill’s previous comedy work, it would feel silly not to give this movie a chance.

I sure hope I don’t find myself wishing for Hill to be a key cast member. And my fingers are crossed that the finished product will make me laugh more than this trailer has.

Alexa Demie, Di Vinci SanTana and Margaret Newborn also star.

Godzilla – King Of The Monsters is a new Michael Dougherty-directed action/adventure of epic proportions. One that pits Godzilla against some of the most popular monsters in pop culture history.

Millie Bobby BrownVera Farmiga, Sally Hawkins and Bradley Whitford star…

My favourite thing about this trailer? Each moment wings unfurl to that beautiful music – especially at 1:19. The combination of the visual effects, the score and the monster’s sheer size makes for an almost, dare I say, ‘spiritual experience?’

To be clear, I’m in for the special effects, and would truly be delighted if this were a disaster movie that pleasantly surprised me in more than one or two ways.

Kyle Chandler, Charles Dance, Ziyi Zhang, Aisha Hinds, Thomas Middleditch, Ken Watanabe and O’Shea Jackson also star.

SHAZAM! (2019): New Trailer From Zachary Levi, Mark Strong, Asher Angel, Jack Dylan Grazer…

Shazam! (2019) Zachary Levi
Shazam! (2019) Zachary Levi

With a single magic word (Shazam!), a boy is given the ability to become an adult superhero in times of need.

Directed by David F. Sandberg, Shazam! stars Zachary Levi, Mark Strong, Asher Angel and Jack Dylan Grazer.

Could this be the next hit superhero movie from DC Comics (after Wonder Woman (2017)? I’m in for this reason. The humour and seeing a version of my own superhero fantasies played out are two more reasons.

I’m already liking  the on-screen chemistry between Asher Angel and Jack Dylan Grazer.

Adam Brody, Djimon Hounsou, Michelle Borth, Marta Milans and Ross Butler also star.

Shazam! Release Dates: April 5th, 2018 (US & UK)…
