THE BOOK OF CLARENCE (2023): New Trailer From LaKeith Stanfield, RJ Cyler, David Oyelowo, Benedict Cumberbatch…

Written/directed by Jeymes Samuel, The Book of Clarence is the story of a man named Clarence who risks everything for a better life. His inspiration? the rising Messiah, of course.

Lakeith Stanfield, David Oyelowo, RJ Cyler, James McAvoy, Omar Sy, Afre Woodard, Benedict Cumberbatch and Anna Diop are among the key cast.

So many thoughts going through my head with this one. I’m excited to see Stanfield deliver as he always does. I also can’t wait to see the various aspects of the universal human experience on display for us to collectively recognise, reflect upon and laugh at.

I’m ready for the great soundtrack, especially if the music in this trailer is anything to go by.

Lastly, This fun comedy sketch came to mind as this trailer played. Anyone else?

The Book of Clarence Release Dates: January 12th, 2024 (US)…

Happy Film Loving

  1. Nice use of the Prince song! Looks like it could be good. I’ll have to shake Stanfield out of my head as Judas in another movie before watching it.

    1. A modern setting would be interesting. However, the biblical times setting will hopefully add a little something special we hadn’t anticipated. I guess we’ll soon find out. 🤓

I suspect that a modern movie that has a similar theme may already exist. I can’t think of what it might be right now but I’ll let you know if something comes to mind.

  2. I love Lakeith Stanfield + David Oyelowo (and Omar Sy too!) but the trailer made me go ‘whoa’… I guess I’ll reserve my judgment until the movie comes out, but it certainly piqued my interest.

    1. ‘Whoa’ is certainly not the worst reaction one can have to a trailer. I hear that it’s apparently, not terrible. I haven’t seen it myself but the reactions to it at the BFI London Film Festival last month appear to have been largely positive. I too look forward to judging for myself in January. 🤓🤞

  3. This made me think of that classic comedy on the same topic: “He’s not the Messiah. He’s a very naughty boy! Now, go away!” 😀
