MONSTERS – The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story is a new ten-episode biography/crime/thriller series that stars Chloë Sevigny, Javier Bardem, Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Cooper Koch.
Created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan; this is the next instalment of the Monsters anthology series. This time, instead of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, the focus is on convicted murderers Lyle and Erik Menendez; two brothers who murdered their parents.
I saw the earlier trailers for this new series some weeks ago. But, considering how dark Dahmer looked and turned out to be, I wasn’t sure I could watch this one either.
I probably still won’t watch this. However, as a fan of Bardem and Sevigny, it will be difficult to ignore it completely. The key question is, can I trade some hours of sadness for super impressive acting and great storytelling? We’ll see.
What appears clear after watching this trailer is that ‘monsters create monsters’. I’ll leave it at that for now.

Javier is good at playing scary characters.
Such truth, you speak! 🥂
This cast looks incredible. Congrats to the casting team.
Amen! I feel as though I can see everything in all their eyes.
True crime fan and i remember this case . Great actors cast and I’d love to see it
I might have to watch it, mainly to see the actors perform rather than the super dark, true-crime nature of the story. It really does look great. Enjoy!
I can’t say I recall anything about this case, but you put it very nicely in your closing statement.
Thanks, Uri. I hope those reviews are coming along nicely! 😁 No real pressure intended, just continuing E.F.’s jab.
I know some people like watching crime stories, but I just don’t need to see this again, it was so well covered by the media at the time, I already know. 😉
I understand that. I feel that way about the Depp/Heard case, and I only heard about what happened second-hand.
Oh yeah, that was another ugly media frenzy, sad.
Very much. May there be no more for a long time, at least.
I don’t want to watch this as it goes to a very dark place. I fear how a movie like this could influence young people to harm their parents. Otoh it might influence young people to share what abuses they are undergoing and get some intervention from it. I would never watch Dahmer either!
I hear you. Though, I want to believe that the filmmakers involved are responsible creators. Also, things don’t quite work out well for the parent killers. So there’s that.
