SAN ANDREAS (2015): When Trailer Music Hits The Right Notes…

San Andreas (2015): Dwayne Johnson, Carla Gugino

Read my spoiler-free movie review of San Andreas 2015).

I love the music in the new trailer for San Andreas (2015) (nothing to do with the Grand Theft Auto video games).

The general pace and rhythm of this preview provides a welcome contrast to the chaos of the film’s reality.

When I like a trailer, I always really hope that the film is equally good, if not better. To this end, seeing Paul Giamatti’s face helped provide some reassurance. In the meantime, I’ll cross my fingers for the end result.

One more thing, you don’t see her face in the trailer, (at least I didn’t) but this film is additional evidence of pop singer Kylie Minogue’s return to acting.

For those wondering, the song is a version/sample of The Mamas & Papas ‘California Dreaming…’ by Robot Koch & Delhia de France

STAR WARS EPISODE 7 – THE FORCE AWAKENS (2015): I May Just Feel It

Star Wars Episode 7 - The Force Awakens (2015)
Star Wars Episode 7 – The Force Awakens (2015)

I love movies, but I do confess that there are some highly regarded films I’ve never watched – and a few more I may never seriously consider watching. Unfortunately, all Star Wars films have always fallen into this category.

The truth is, fantasy is simply not my favourite genre. In fact, I was quite sure I’d probably never get to watch a single Star Wars film. Unless…
…I met a really impassioned fan who somehow finally managed to convince me to put my aversion to fantasy movies aside.

What I didn’t count on was that, said fan might just be new Star Wars writer/director J.J. Abrams.

I didn’t actually meet him, by the way. However, I have seen the first 60 seconds of the new Star Wars Episode 7 – The Force Awakens teaser trailer.

I’m making no promises, of course. But when that next trailer does arrive, attention, I will certainly pay.

THE INTERVIEW (2014): The Rogen Franco Bromance Continues

The Interview (2014) Seth Rogen, James Franco

Seth Rogen and James Franco are two filmmakers I really appreciate. The Interview (2014) is their latest work – and the trailer?

May their partnership thrive, always.

APOCALYPTO (2006): Epic In A Number Of Ways, Especially That Chase Sequence

Apocalypto (2007), Rudy Youngblood
Apocalypto (2007), Rudy Youngblood

Mel Gibson’s Mayan Epic Apocalypto (2006) is tense, gruesome, emotional, and violent – plus, it contains a big, black, beastly creature I adore.

Best of all, though, Apocalypto features a wonderfully thrilling hour-long chase sequence that I won’t soon forget. You may know that I love well-crafted dialogue. However, few things in film are more engaging than a beautifully choreographed chase sequence. And the one in this movie is easily one of the very best.

Apocalypto certainly isn’t always the easiest to watch, thanks to some challenging scenes. But it is a very entertaining, drama, action and thriller hybrid. At no point did I deliberately avert my eyes from the screen whenever a tough scene was happening. But my hands did shoot up to my mouth and face a few times, and without warning.

I suspect that some people’s dormant misanthropic tendencies may be tested by this great story. But, by the end, you’ll likely want to appreciate the smart, quick thinking and undoubtedly strong people in your life. That’s certainly where my mind went to, as this memorable story came to an end.

Apocalypto is for fans of great storytelling, big cats (a puma in this instance – the aforementioned big, black, beastly creature I adore) and the very perfect hour-long chase sequence.

Watch it at once, I say!

TAKEN 3 (2015) Trailer: You’ll Be Pleasantly Surprised…

Taken 3 (2015), Liam Neeson
Taken 3 (2015), Liam Neeson

Read my spoiler-free movie review of Taken 3 (2014).

Taken (2008) was brilliant. Taken 2 (2012) was alright. Taken 3…?

You’ll be relieved to see that the story, by writers Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen looks quite different.

Can’t say that this is the final instalment, but I’m certainly glad to see the wonderfully voiced Liam Neeson playing seriously badass, ex-government operative, Bryan Mills once again. Bring on 2015! I’m ready!

Taken 3 Release Dates: January 8th 2015 (UK); January 9th, 2015 (US)…
