The brilliance that is Mr. Bale is the reason I’m tuning in. He embodies such screen presence, charisma and that’s before he even says a single word.

Directed by Scott Cooper; Jesse Plemons, Stephen Lang, Paul Anderson and Q’orianka Kilcher also star.

Five Fingers For Marseilles (2017)

Directed by Michael Matthews, and starring Zethu Dlomo, Kenneth Fok plus Warren Masemola, Five Fingers for Marseilles is a thriller/western in which the lives of several are changed, after young Tau kills two corrupt policemen in a South African shanty town.

I was so ready to watch this movie when I thought it was about Marseille, France. Now that I’ve seen the trailer, I’m not mad because it looks very promising.

The beautiful cinematography, the western, but in a way I’ve never experienced before, the story, and the Quentin Tarantino vibe that I can’t deny are the reasons I want to watch.

In The Beguiled, Colin Farrell plays a wounded Union soldier who cons his way into the hearts of the women in a Confederate girls’ boarding school.

Soon enough, the women turn against each other, just before they get smart and turn on him. Directed by Sofia Coppola; other acting talent includes Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst, Elle Fanning and Angourie Rice.

I find this trailer promising, especially because of the cast. I want to be even more excited but after The Bling Ring (2013) – the last Sofia Coppola directed movie I saw which I did not enjoy as much as expected,  I’ll wait and see;  in a very calm and perfectly balanced manner. Also this is a remake of the 1971 movie of the same name starring Clint Eastwood.

Brimstone is the latest western/thriller from director Martin Koolhoven. Starring Kit Harrington, Guy Pearce, Dakota Fanning and Carice van Houten, it is a story about Liz (Fanning), a young woman who wants a better life for her and her daughter. Sadly they are being hunted by a vengeful preacher (Pearce).

Pearce in a ‘bad guy’ role reminds me of his great work in Lawless (2012). My, oh my did I hate his character in that film; so good were his acting skills. I hope this movie is also great.

Ti West is the director of In A Valley Of Violence, the new western starring John Travolta, Karen Gillan and Ethan Hawke.

There’s the promise of a little gun play, some revenge,  a sprinkling of misfits and, naturally, a mysterious stranger.

I wonder which of Ethan Hawke’s 2016 westerns I’ll like more, In A Valley Of Violence  or The Magnificent Seven? The gun play in the latter tells me it might win. But then, there’s the humour in the former which feels reminiscent of A Million Ways To Die In The West (2014), which was fun.
