Read my spoiler-free movie review of  The Witches (2020).

Forrest Gump (1994) director Robert Zemeckis has a new film starring Anne Hathaway, Chris Rock, Octavia Spencer and Stanley Tucci.

Based on Roald Dahl’s 1983 classic book of the same name, The Witches, this one promises to be a scary, funny and imaginative tale of a seven year old boy who has a run in with some real life witches.

‘Festive fun’ is the vibe I get from this one. I love the cast, and I’m excited about the special effects. Naturally, I’m not a fan of mice in real life, but when they’re not real, even I can find a way to appreciate them.

Codie-Lei Eastick, Charles Edwards, Morgana Robinson, Jahzir Bruno, Eugenia Caruso, Simon Manyonda, Jonathan Livingstone, Philippe Spall, Zeke Taylor, Eurydice El-Etr and Anna Devlin also star.

The Witches Release Dates: October 22nd, 2020 (US)…

THE HUSTLE (2019): New Trailer From Anne Hathaway, Rebel Wilson, Tim Blake Nelson…

In new comedy, The Hustle, Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson are two down-and-out con artists engaged in a contest where the loser must leave town.

Directed by Chris Addison, The Hustle is a remake of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (1988), which stars  Steve Martin and Michael Caine.

I’m in for the amusing ridiculousness, the James Bond-like settings, the glamour, and to see Hathaway in another role she clearly had fun playing.

Tim Blake Nelson, Sarah-Stephanie, Meena Rayann, Aaron Neil, Ingrid Oliver, Alex Sharp and Casper Christensen also star.

The Hustle Release Dates: May 10th, 2019 (US & UK)…

SERENITY (2018): New Trailer From Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Diane Lane, Djimon Hounsou…

Serenity (2018), Anne Hathaway

In new drama/thriller Serenity, Matthew McConaughey is a fishing boat captain living in the Caribbean whose life is interrupted when his past comes back to haunt him.

From writer/director Steven Knight; Anne Hathaway, Diane Lane, and Djimon Hounsou are among the key cast.

The genre, talent and setting all appeal to me. I also like that this movie appears to be a change of pace for at least one of the cast.

All I want now is for the ‘lies beneath the surface’ to be worth the run time. Writer/director Steven Knight did write my favourite Tom Hardy movie (Locke 2013), so there is hope.

Additional cast includes Jeremy Strong, Jason Clarke and Kenneth Fok.

Serenity Release Dates: October 19th, 2018 (US)…

COLOSSAL (2016): New Trailer From Anne Hathaway, Dan Stevens, Jason Sudeikis…

Colossal (2016), (Anne Hathaway)
Colossal (2016), (Anne Hathaway)

Today’s trailer definitely isn’t the kind I’d been expecting from Oscar winning actress Anne Hathaway.

Still, Colossal, a Nacho Vigalondo written/directed movie about a woman (Hathaway) who finds that severe catastrophic events are in some way connected to her present mental breakdown could be absolutely great, Even though the following trailer which also stars Jason Sudeikis and Dan Stevens hasn’t quite managed to convince me just yet.

I’ve decided I’m going to trust Hathaway’s choice and hope for the very best.

Other cast includes Austin Stowell, Tim Blake Nelson, Miho Suzuki and Rukiya Bernard.

Colossal Release Dates: April 17th (US)…

ONE DAY (2011): Good Story, A Beautiful Musical Score…

One Day (2011), Anne Hathaway, Jim Burgess
One Day (2011), Anne Hathaway, Jim Burgess

Starring Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess, One Day is the story of Dexter and Em, a pair we first meet on the day they spend a night together on the last day of college. We then get to see them many times more on the very same day in the years that follow.

Directed by Lone Sherfig, and based on the best-selling novel by David Nicholls, I liked One Day because it’s a charming, well-told and universal story. One of male/female friendships, unrequited love and incredibly bad timing at its core.

Anne Hathaway’s British accent is very impressive and you’ll definitely notice the film’s well-chosen soundtrack and musical score. Watch One Day because it’s good and the themes featured are really worth being exposed to.

Patricia Clarkson, Rafe Spall, Tom Mison and David Ajala make up more of the talented cast. There’s also a well-cast little girl we see later in the movie that looks suspiciously like a young Cara Delevigne.

Happy Film Loving,

G
