Directed by Anthony Maras, Pressure is a new drama/history/thriller set during the tense 72 hours before D-Day, history’s largest seaborne invasion, marking the start of Western Europe’s liberation from Nazi control.

Brendan Fraser, Kerry Condon, Andrew Scott, Damian Lewis and Chris Messina are among the key cast.

When you don’t want to watch a war movie, but the acting power involved is so strong, you may just have to. That’s where I am right now.

Admittedly, part of what’s swaying me to see this is how much I loved Andrew Scott’s small role but mighty performance in Sam Mendes’s 1917 (2019). His part in Pressure is far from small, and that’s what’s so exciting about it; he has more screen time to delight and move us with his performance.

What is your appetite like for this particular war movie?

Henry Ashton, Con O’Neill, Tamsin Topolski, Daniel Quinn Toye, Wil Coban, Michael Benz, Harrison Osterfield, Richard Clothier, Joshua Hill, Charles Camrose and Patrick Flannery also star.

New comedy Fackham Hall stars Damian Lewis, Katherine Waterston, Jimmy Carr and Tom Felton.

Directed by Jim O’Hanlon, the focus is on the wealthy Davenport family in 1931, as they deal with the wedding of their eldest daughter to an ungentlemanly cousin.

I’m a bit sad that Lewis’s character doesn’t stay alive for very long, since he’s such a wonderful actor who’s great in everything.

Outside of wanting more Lewis, my general reaction to this trailer is, ‘Hello, giggles. I’m ready.‘

How is it looking for you?

Today’s trailer stars Damian Lewis, Stellan SkarsgĂĄrd, Ewan McGregor and Naomie Harris.  All are reasonably reliable names when it comes to how good a film is likely to be.

Quite unexpectedly though, after watching this preview, the question that’s lingering in my mind is why I’m not currently filled with complete confidence about the expected quality of the finished product. The answer is in a combination of things. There’s the general look and feel which isn’t particularly cinematic.

I’d hoped for more in terms of music choice, sound, dialogue – its delivery and the trailer’s general execution. Especially in terms of how gripped I am by what I’m seeing. Even more so considering the fact that Our Kind of Traitor is a thriller based on a best selling book by the author of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011).

I’d love to be wrong because I want to believe the trailer editor has simply made some – in my opinion, questionable choices, which would then mean the finished product and perhaps a later version of the trailer will be better. I’d much rather that be true than the idea that this movie won’t be great. I truly would like to be wrong. Except, I wasn’t wrong about Burnt (2015).
