THUNDERBOLTS* (2025): New Trailer Starring Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Sebastian Stan, Wyatt Russell…

Being forced to confront the darkest corners of their pasts is what’s in store for the unconventional team of antiheroes in Marvel Entertainment’s new action/fantasy/adventure, Thunderbolts*

Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, Wyatt Russell and David Harbour are among the key cast while Jake Schreier directs.

I saw Bucky’s arm in the dishwasher and thought for a second that maybe Thunderbolts* is categorised as part comedy, which would increase my chances of watching it; it is not.

Am I still a little curious? Yes. Enough for me to go to the cinema? No. Do I still want it to be good for the super fans and, because I like Pugh, plus her accent? Yes, absolutely.

Lastly, is it likely that the most I’ll ever see of Thunderbolts* is the trailers? Indeed. Nevertheless, never say never, because, you know… The Substance (2024).

Geraldine Viswanathan, Lewis Pullman, Sebastian Stan, Hannah John-Kamen, Olga Kurylenko, Wyatt Russell, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Chris Bauer, Joshua Mikel and Alireza Mirmontazeri also star.

Thunderbolts* Release Dates: May 2nd, 2025 (US & UK)…

VIOLENT NIGHT (2022): The Things I Liked…

Violent Night (2022), David Harbour, Universal Pictures
Violent Night (2022), David Harbour, Universal Pictures

I found Violent Night, a movie about a group of robbers who attack the estate of a wealthy family on Christmas eve quite delightful. It put me in the best mood for at least twenty-four hours post-viewing.

I truly liked everything about director Tommy Wirkola’s film, including the fun, violent and Christmasy theme; a welcome difference when compared to the usual Christmas movie fair.

For me, the script, cinematography, fight sequences and overall performances delivered the promise made by the equally charming trailer months earlier.

There’s no doubt that some people will find the violence too much. Still, I wouldn’t say that Violent Night meets the brutality and savagery levels achieved by Tarantino films.

I say give Wirkola’s film a chance if you’re curious. Several people have referred to it as a combination of Die Hard (1988) and Home Alone (1990). I don’t remember too much about the Die Hard films, but it sounds pretty accurate, no?

‘A perfect film’ is not the right phrase to describe Violent Night. But the imperfections are part of what made it so fun to me. There’s also the pleasant-to-watch pairing of David Harbour and John Leguizamo in one film together as adversaries.

VIOLENT NIGHT (2022): New Trailer Starring David Harbour, John Leguizamo, Beverly D’Angelo, Cam Gigandet…

Read my spoiler-free movie review of  Violent Night (2022).

John Leguizamo and David Harbour’s latest action/comedy Violent Night will show us what happens when a group of mercenaries attack the estate of a wealthy family. Their plans go far from smoothly. That’s what. And all thanks to Santa Claus.

Directed by Tommy Wirkola; Beverly D’Angelo, Cam Gigandet, Alexis Louder and Stephanie Sy are among the key cast.

I’m so in for all the darker and funny Santa movies that have been happening in recent years. I remember being pleasantly surprised by 2020’s Fatman. It looks like this too is going to be quite entertaining. How can it not be with such a wonderful and reliable cast?

Also, tell me that this trailer and possibly the entire movie isn’t fully worth it, just so we can hear Harbour perfectly deliver that delightful line at 1:47 into the trailer?

Alexander Elliot, John B. Lowe, Mitra Suri, Frederick Allen, Erik Athavale, Brendan Fletcher, Edi Patterson, Alex Hassell and Alexis Louder also star.

Violent Night Release Dates: December 2nd, 2022 (US & UK)…

BLACK WIDOW (2021): The Things I Liked…

Focused on the story of Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, we get to learn plenty about the avenger’s complicated past in an engaging tale that features unhealthy family dynamics, secrets, lies and some impressive action/fight sequences.

The main stars, Scarlett Johansson, Florence Pugh, David Harbour and Rachel Weisz are great. And unsurprisingly, as is the case with most, if not all Marvel movies, the musical score is impressive.

In addition to the action and music, my favourite thing about Black Widow is the sisterly dynamic between Pugh and Johansson’s characters. So much so that I’m ready for more Johansson/Pugh movies.

In terms of where Black Widow sits in my list of favourite Marvel movies, the understandably seemingly abrupt ending aside, I can say that I liked this film more than I did Captain Marvel (2019). Which of the two films ranks higher for you?

Your thoughts are very welcome in the comments below.

EXTRACTION (2020): New Trailer From Chris Hemsworth, David Harbour, Golshifteh Farahani, Derek Luke…

Extraction (2020), Chris Hemsworth, Netflix
Extraction (2020), Chris Hemsworth, Netflix

Read my spoiler-free movie review of  Extraction (2020).

In new action/drama Extraction, Chris Hemsworth is Tyler Rake, a fearless black market mercenary who embarks on the most deadly extraction of his career.

Directed by Sam Hargrave; David Harbour, Rudhraksh Jaiswal  and Golshifteh Farahani are among the key cast.

At more than three minutes, this trailer feels a tad too long, but I’ll still be watching for the suspenseful action, Hemsworth and for the refreshing India/Bangladesh setting.

Pankaj Tripathi, Randeep Hooda, Marc Donato, Chris Jai Alex, Geetanjali Thapa, Mir Sarwar, Hays Wellford, Prashant Narayanan, Shataf Figar and Priyanshu Painyuli also star.

Extraction Release Dates: April 24th, 2020 (US) / Netflix…
