MISSING LINK (2019): The Things I Liked…

Missing Link (2019), Hugh Jackman

Missing Link, the story of Mr Link (a Big-Foot-like character) and his adventures with explorer Sir Lionel Frost (Hugh Jackman), plus adventurer Adelina Fortnight is an animated movie I found to be fun in parts and watchable.

The reason I’m not more enthused by writer/director Chris Butler’s film is that story-wise, it felt oddly superficial and more basic than I expected.

What I did enjoy are the interactions between Lionel and Link, plus the moments of heart, most of which happen in the more engaging last quarter. Emma Thompson’s character is another welcome highlight, and it proved quite satisfying to see Lionel’s growth/evolution as the story continued.

I watched Missing Link because the cast which also includes Zoe Saldana and Zack Galifianakis intrigued me. Yet, overall, I wish I could include Butler’s film on my list of favourite animated movies I’ve seen in recent years, but I cannot. Nevertheless, I say give Missing Link a chance if you’re particularly curious. It may just be what you need when you’re after an easy-viewing animated film experience.

BAD EDUCATION (2019): New Trailer Starring Hugh Jackman, Allison Janney, Alex Wolff, Geraldine Viswanathan…

Bad Education (2020), Hugh Jackman, HBO
Bad Education (2020), Hugh Jackman, HBO

Hugh Jackman (Frank Tassone) and Allison Janney’s (Pam Gluckin) latest comedy/drama Bad Education, is all about the unfolding of the single largest public school embezzlement scandal in history.

Directed by Cory Finley, Bad Education is set in Long Island, New York and features additional key cast including Ray Romano, Geraldine Viswanathan and Alex Wolff.

I’m in for the great performances and humour, as always. I also definitely want to see just how dramatically all the lies unravel, and the perpetrators get brought to justice.

The combination of Jackman and Janney is clearly a win. It actually seems odd that they haven’t already been in a movie together. I could be wrong of course.

Kathrine Narducci, Kathrine Narducci, Stephanie Kurtzuba, Annaleigh Ashford, Jimmy Tatro, Pat Healy, Welker White, Kayli Carter, Ray Abruzzo, Rafael Casal and Catherine Curtin also star.

Bad Education Release Dates: April 25th, 2020 (US)…

THE GREATEST SHOWMAN (2017): The Things I Loved…

The Greatest Showman (2017): Rebecca Ferguson
The Greatest Showman (2017): Rebecca Ferguson

The fact that musicals aren’t my favourite genre is the reason I still haven’t seen even half of the very highly rated musicals out there, and I doubt I ever will. Yet, against all odds, I’ve found my most loved musical to date in The Greatest Showman.

Based on the true story of P.T Barnum, a visionary who rose from nothing to create the mesmerising spectacle known as the circus, I found so much to love about director Michael Gracey’s film. The music, of course, the costumes, humour, choreography, performances and themes; I simply enjoyed it all.

I appreciate The Greatest Showman even more because of the way it speaks to the part of me that chooses to live life on my own terms, regardless of what society expects of me. Gracey’s film is one about a person who took the risk and followed his vision to make his dreams a reality. In this way, The Greatest Showman belongs in the same entrepreneurship-loving space that Jon Favreau’s Chef (2014) occupies in my heart.

It’s generally no secret that the real P.T. Barnum wasn’t exactly a perfect human being. Additionally, not every character in this film actually existed. Yet, my, oh my, is this version of the story beautiful.

Zac Efron, Hugh Jackman, Zendaya and Michelle Williams all deliver good performances. As does Rebecca Ferguson. Particularly, the moment we all get to hear her character’s singing voice. A scene that is arguably the most arresting. A true wow moment.

You’ve very likely already seen this beautiful film, but if you haven’t, watch The Greatest Showman at once! And do it for all the seemingly endless reasons above, because you may just find yourself inspired.

THE FRONT RUNNER (2018): New Trailer From Hugh Jackman, Vera Farmiga, Sara Paxton, J.K. Simmons…

The Front Runner (2018), Hugh Jackman

Starring Hugh Jackman, J.K. Simmons, Sara Paxton, and Vera Farmiga, The Front Runner is a new Jason Reitman-directed biography/drama about American Senator Gary Hart and his 1988 presidential campaign. A campaign that was soon embroiled in scandal.

I knew absolutely nothing about Gary Hart before this trailer. I’m a little bit intrigued by him, but it’s really the chance to see Jackman do a great job that will have me tuning in.

Kaitlyn Dever, Molly Ephraim, Courtney Ford and Ari Graynor also star.

The Front Runner Release Dates: November 7th, 2018 (US); January 25th, 2019 (UK)…
