The official trailer for A Quiet Place Part 2 is here. A John Krasinski directed horror / thriller starring Emily Blunt, Cillian Murphy and about a family whose survival is dependant on how quiet they can be in their everyday lives…

This is one of very few trailers that doesn’t feel too long even though it’s more than 2.5 minutes in length.

I’m definitely looking forward to all the major mommy ‘badassery’ we can expect from Blunt. I also find myself relieved that Murphy will be playing a good guy. The Abbot family could really do with another adult on their side. Especially considering all the people left who ‘aren’t worth saving’.

Okieriete Onaodowan, Blake DeLong, Ashley Dyke, Andy Rich and Silas Pereira-Olson also star.

A Quiet Place Part 2 sees the return of the Abbot family (Emily Blunt, Noah Jupe and Millicent Simmonds) as they learn that the creatures that hunt by sound aren’t the only threats that lurk beyond the sand path.

Directed by John Krasinski; additional key cast includes Cillian Murphy, Djimon Hounsou, Wayne Duvall, Lauren-Ashley Cristiano…

I’m excited to see more ingenuity from the Abbots. I want to know the new and clever ways will they’ll think up to ensure their survival.

Also, I like the introduction of Murphy. My guess is that he’s probably not a ‘good guy…’ or is he?

Ashley Dyke, Andy Rich, Okieriete Onaodowan, Blake DeLong and Silas Pereira-Olson also star.

A QUIET PLACE (2018): The Things I Liked…

A Quiet Place (2018), Emily Blunt
A Quiet Place (2018), Emily Blunt

Starring Emily Blunt, co-written / directed by and starring John Krasinski, A Quiet Place is a scary movie I wanted to see regardless of my characteristic of being ‘easily spooked into sleeplessness and nightmares.’

Set during a post apocalyptic future, Blunt and Krasinski are a couple with three children. In an effort to stay alive, the family are forced to live in silence because simply not doing so will mean they’re heard and subsequently become prey for mysterious creatures that hunt by sound.

I enjoyed this movie and was shocked, moved and impressed by the story, characters, performances plus the execution of the most memorable moments. A Quiet Place did a good job of showing the audience the general cleverness one would need in order to survive in a world where sound becomes deadly.

I absolutely want to believe that I’d survive living in silence. However there may be too much about me that is loud. A surprise sneeze attack among many other things would surely mean the end of me.

Besides making me an even bigger fan of Blunt and Krasinski, A Quiet Place made me appreciate my freedom to make sound. It reminded me of the gargantuan challenge that is parenting. And because of blunt’s character, it also left me feeling even more empowered and powerful as a young woman, something I wasn’t expecting.

If I had to pick one thing that I wasn’t totally in love with about this movie, it would be the jarring move from silence to a seemingly super loud sound / music.

Watch it because it’s good and A Quiet Place will likely not result in a single moment of sleeplessness. It didn’t for me.. yet!

Also co-written and directed by Krasinski, according to IMDb, the synopsis for this one is currently being kept under wraps…

This is a very intriguing trailer. It’s going to be interesting watching what I’m guessing will be in at least some part, a silent movie. Go, go, go, team Blunt / Krasinski!

DETROIT (2017): New Trailer From Kathryn Bigelow, Starring John Boyega, Will Poulter, John Krasinski…

Oscar winning director Kathryn Bigelow’s latest movie is all about the 1967 police raid in Detroit, USA that lead to one of the largest citizen uprisings in the history of the United States. John Boyega, Will Poulter, John Krasinski Anthony Mackie and Jack Reynor star…

This is definitely in my list of best trailers of 2017. Boyega and Poulter’s accents sound great – according to my non-American ears. I look forward to the seriously tense scenes that are surely coming my way.

Tyler James Williams, Kaitlyn Dever and Hannah Murray also star.

THE HOLLARS (2016): The Thing I Liked – Sharlto Copley’s Performance…

The Hollars (2016), Sharlto Copley, John Krasinski
The Hollars (2016), Sharlto Copley, John Krasinski

Directed by John Krasinski, The Hollars is a comedy / drama about a son returning to his small town after his mother falls ill. Not the most obvious premise for comedy but there are laughs to be had with Krasinki’s latest directorial effort. Besides the good humour, especially courtesy of Sharlto Copley’s brother character, I enjoyed the film’s portrait of family, sibling dynamics and all the good performances from all the cast.

Written by Jim Strouse who also wrote one of my favourites, People, Places, Things (2015)Anna Kendrick, Charlie Day, Richard Jenkins, Margot Martingale and Randall Park also star.

The Hollars is fitting for when you’re in the mood for a relaxing drama / comedy with a little splash of romance – nothing too taxing.

Starring and directed by John Krasinski, The Hollars is a family drama / comedy about what happens when a son returns to his home town after learning of his mother’s illness…

I’m tuning into this one for the comedy, intriguing family dynamics and a cast that in addition to krasinski, includes Charlie Day, Anna Kendrick, Richard Jenkins, Josh Groban, Margo Martindale and Sharlto Copley.

ALOHA (2015): The Good & Bad Things

Aloha (2015), Bradley Cooper
Aloha (2015), Bradley Cooper

Just before I saw the trailer for Aloha, starring Bradley Cooper, I was very much on a high after watching his deservedly Best Actor, Oscar nominated performance in American Sniper (2014).

The Aloha trailer didn’t look terrible, though some of the dialogue didn’t sit as well as one would have liked. As I watched the movie a few months later, the unfortunate truth of the dialogue did come to be, because there I was cringing in parts.

I found the romance between Emma Stone’s character and Brian Gilcrest (Bradley Cooper) a tad forced and unconvincing. It didn’t help that Stone’s character was also rather annoying.

In director, Cameron Crowe’s efforts to capture the seemingly laid back pace of Hawaii, the pace of the movie suffered.

Aloha (2015), Danny McBride, Bradley Cooper

The few beautiful shots of Hawaii’s landscape in the beginning and all the scenes that feature Danny McBride are my favourite things. There were a few other good moments but not significant enough to make Aloha good or worth watching.

It’s all a big shame considering a very talented cast list that includes Rachel McAdams, John Krasinski, Bill Murray and Alec Baldwin.

Happy film loving. Now go and enjoy Silver Linings Playbook (2012) and / or Jerry Maguire (1996) 🙂
