YESTERDAY (2019): New Trailer From Lily James, Himesh Patel, Ana De Armas, Kate McKinnon…

Yesterday (2019), Himesh Patel, Lily James
Yesterday (2019), Himesh Patel, Lily James

Starring Lily James, Himesh Patel, Ana De Armas, Kate McKinnon – and directed by Danny Boyle; Yesterday is a new comedy/fantasy about a struggling musician who realises something unexpected after an accident.

He learns that nobody in the whole world except him knows of The Beatles, one of the most successful bands of all time.

I have to see how this extraordinary situation plays out, especially since it’s directed by the rather reliable Mr. Boyle. I need to know whether our protagonist ends up feeling guilty and what he intends to do with all his newly found financial success.

What if the whole thing turns out to be an elaborate social experiment? I. have so many questions.

Ed Sheeran, Camille Chen, Derek Siow, Joel Fry, Alexander Arnold and Lamorne Morris also star.

Yesterday Release Dates: June 28th, 2019 (UK); September 13th, 2019 (US)…

IRREPLACEABLE YOU (2018): New Trailer From Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Michiel Huisman, Christopher Walken…

Read my spoiler-free movie review of Irreplaceable You (2018).

Irreplaceable You is a Stephanie Laing-directed romance/comedy/drama about a couple for whom ’till death do us part’ is coming much sooner than expected.

Key cast includes Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Michiel Huisman and Christopher Walken.

I’m in for the comedy and romance. No doubt I’m also going to ‘boohoo’ quite a bit. The story rather demands it.

I had no idea that I’d just been looking at Michiel Huisman of The Age of Adaline (2015) and Game of Thrones until 1:09 into this trailer. I guess the people behind the Superman story are correct, spectacles are quite the disguise.

Claire Holt, Jacki Weaver, Brian Tyree Henry, Tamara Tunie and SteveCoogan also star.

Irreplaceable You Release Dates: February 16th, 2018 (US)…

ROUGH NIGHT (2017): New Trailer From Scarlett Johansson, Zoë Kravitz, Kate McKinnon…

Scarlett Johansson, Zoë Kravitz and Kate McKinnon have a new Lucia Aniello-directed comedy.

The story centres around what happens at a bachelorette weekend getaway, after one of the attendees ends up dead.

I think it’s going to take something pretty special to experience a bachelor/bachelorette getaway movie that’s good enough to come close to the likes of The Hangover (2009) and Bridesmaids (2011).

I’m happy to entertain those who try, though. As long as the trailers don’t look absolutely terrible. So far, for 2017, we have  Girls Trip and now, Rough Night. I’m not particularly over-excited about either option, but I am willing to be pleasantly surprised.

Rough Night Release Dates: June 16th, 2017 (US & UK)…

GHOSTBUSTERS (2016): The Things I Liked…

Ghostbusters (2016), Kate McKinnon, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones
Ghostbusters (2016), Kate McKinnon, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones

Starring Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, Kate McKinnon, Kristen Wiig and Chris Hemsworth, Ghostbusters is simultaneously everything I expected and also what I did not expect. The former because the trailers were so very disappointing that I really ought to have known. The latter because the director is Paul Feig, the man who brought us big comedy hits such as Bridesmaids (2011) and Spy (2015).

Surely, if anyone could do right by the much-loved Ghostbusters classic, it would be Feig.  Apparently not, because the words that went through my mind as I watched Ghostbusters were ‘Oh, this is bad and slow.’ ’Why does the green slime feel ridiculous, unfunny and the special effects dated?’ ‘Why am I not laughing?’ ‘Is this movie made for nine to fourteen-year-olds?’ Was the production just a mad rush?’ ‘Where did it all go wrong? I had such high HOPES! (before I saw the trailers).’

Even though the trailers did leave plenty to be desired, I didn’t really believe that we’d end up with what feels like a wasted opportunity and a Paul Feig movie I’d much rather forget.

Within all the madness, I did manage to find a few highlights. Firstly, there’s the great line or two delivered by Kevin (Chris Hemsworth), when he’s questioned about his glasses. Second, Leslie Jones’s energy and commitment to her character is something that really helped with my engagement levels. Third, the role played by Zach Woods – because he has great facial expressions and eyeballs.

Last but certainly not least, Bill Murray. His character’s appearance actually helped lift things for a good few seconds, far from long enough, obviously.

At this point, I’d just really love for  Feig’s next movie to be great because rightly or wrongly, he’s the one I’m most disappointed in.

OFFICE CHRISTMAS PARTY (2016): New Trailer From Jennifer Aniston, Olivia Munn, Jason Bateman…

Office Christmas Party is the latest comedy from T.J. Miller, Olivia Munn, Jennifer Aniston and Jason Bateman.

Directed by Josh Gordon and Will Speck, the story involves a bunch of grownup office workers partying hard and behaving quite badly.

Ill advised as it may be, Jennifer Aniston and my love for her work on Horrible Bosses (2011) is the key reason I’ll be tuning in.

Not that I  want a carbon copy, of course. Nevertheless, I’d much rather this movie be like Horrible Bosses than  The Night Before (2015). The former was brilliant but the latter? Only good in trailer form.

May this also be nothing like Sisters (2015), a movie similar to The Night Before in the way that it features grownups unconvincingly doing things and behaving in ways that would make sense for teenagers only.

Office Christmas Party Release Dates: December 9th, 2016 (US & UK)…
