RICHARD JEWELL (2019): New Trailer From Clint Eastwood, Starring Jon Hamm, Sam Rockwell, Olivia Wilde, Kathy Bates, Paul Walter Hauser…

Clint Eastwood’s latest drama, Richard Jewell, tells the true story of Jewell, an American security guard who heroically saved thousands of lives from an exploding bomb at the 1996 Olympic Games, in Atlanta, USA.

Starring Paul Walter Hauser, Jon Hamm, Olivia Wilde, Sam Rockwell and Kathy Bates, Eastwood’s film is about the unjust vilification of Jewell by journalists and the press, who falsely reported that he was a terrorist.

Firstly, what a wonderfully edited trailer. Second, I remember enjoying Hauser’s work in I Tonya (2017) and it looks like he’s truly great in this far more dramatic role. Now I can’t wait to find out how things turned out for Jewell.

One more thing: YEEAAH! Another Eastwood movie! Just had to let that out.

Nina Arianda, Ian Gomez, Deja Dee, Randy Havens, Wayne Duvall, Beth Keener, Mike Pniewski and Mitchell Hoog also star.

Read my spoiler-free movie review of  The Highway Men (2019).

In new crime/drama The Highwaymen, Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson are two police officers who have come out of retirement to catch the infamous bank-robbing outlaws Bonnie & Clyde.

Directed by John Lee Hancock; additional key cast includes Kathy Bates, Thomas Mann, Kim Dickens and John Carroll Lynch.

I haven’t watched a Bonnie & Clyde movie for a long time and I definitely don’t remember the story focusing mainly on the officers trying to catch the outlaws. As such, I’m rather looking forward to this seemingly fresh perspective.

I also didn’t realise I’d missed seeing Kevin Costner in a movie until I saw him here. How can I not miss him when I loved his character in Hidden Figures (2016) so much?

W. Earl Brown, David Furr, and Brian F. Durkin also star.

The Highwaymen Release Dates: March 29th, 2019 (US)…

COMPLETE UNKNOWN: New Trailer From Rachel Weisz, Michael Shannon, Kathy Bates…

In Complete Unknown, which stars Michael Shannon, Rachel Weisz and Kathy Bates, Weisz’s character is a woman who likes to regularly change her identity and start over.

Based on what I’ve seen so far, the character played by Weisz already annoys me. I’m guessing because of her perceived selfishness. Nevertheless, that doesn’t mean I don’t want to understand her. In that case, bring on her shenanigans, I say!

Complete Unknown Release Dates: August 26th, 2016 (US)…

BAD SANTA 2 (2016): New Trailer From Billy Bob Thornton, Tony Cox & Kathy Bates…

Billy Bob Thornton, Kathy Bates and Tony Cox are back for Bad Santa 2, a sequel to the 2003 original that featured a whiskey swilling conman and his angry little sidekick.

I haven’t watched the first Bad Santa movie because the trailer didn’t convince me to do so. Also, I have a general fear that this sequel too will be disappointing. Partly because sequels usually are.

However, I’ve decided to commit to watching the original, which will hopefully mean that I can look forward to well-executed,  profanity-filled lines from the very worst,  possible Santa Claus to ever do it.

Has Bad Santa piqued your interest?

Bad Santa 2 Release Dates: November 23rd, 2016 (US); November 23rd, 2016 (UK)…

THE BOSS (2016): Best, In Trailer Form…

The Boss (2016), Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Bell
The Boss (2016), Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Bell

The Boss, directed by Ben Falcone who co-wrote the story with his wife Melissa McCarthy is a comedy that isn’t quite as unwatchable as Tammy (2014) – the couple’s last collaboration, but that doesn’t mean it’s good either

What’s undoubtable by now is McCarthy’s comedy skills. Unfortunately,  I just see The Boss as another movie that’s actually more enjoyable in the format of short comedy sketches. I.e. the film’s trailer or something like an episode of Comedy Central’s Inside Amy Schumer.

The good thing about the comedy sketch/trailer format for this movie is that nobody would have to put up with what in the end feels like story telling, minus the commitment required to make it good enough.

As for the notable amount of profanity in the movie, I enjoy creative use of cuss words as much much as most, but in this film, it’s used so much that it actually stops adding to the comedy and borders on tedious and lazy.

I was really hoping that The Boss would have me raving about how much fun it is – as  I did with McCarthy’s last movie Spy (2015). Sadly, The Boss just feels kind of empty and instead makes me want to re-watch Horrible Bosses (2011), a really, rather good comedy.

Mary Sohn, Timothy Simons and Kathy Bates also star.
