Hosted by Will Smith, Amend – The Fight for America is a new series that offers a look at the evolving, often lethal, fight for equal rights in America; through the lens of the US Constitution’s 14th Amendment.

Created by Robe Imbriano and Tom Yellin; additional key cast includes Diane Lane, Mahershala Ali, Laverne Cox, Joshua Jackson, Samuel L. Jackson and Aja Naomi King.

I couldn’t help but think of Ava DuVernay’s 13th (2016) as this played. For it’s a very informative and useful documentary about the history of racial inequality in the the United States prison system.

I’m not expecting this to be quite as eye-opening as 13th, but I am looking forward to learning a thing or two, and seeing the various ways all the famous people involved will be contributing.

Randall Park, Pedro Pascal, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Sterling K. Brown, Bobby Cannavale, Rafael Casal, Whitney Cummings and many more also star.

Amend – The Fight for America Release Dates: February 17th, 2021, Netflix, (US)…

Promising Young Woman is a new revenge story starring Carey Mulligan, Adam Brody, Laverne Cox and Connie Britton.

Written / directed by Emerald Fennell; Cassie (Mulligan) is traumatised because of a tragic past event and so decides to seeks vengeance against men who cross her path…

I’m mostly curious about what Mulligan will bring to the role. Something also tells me that it’s going to be interesting to see all the different excuses made by the so-called ‘nice guys.’

Clancy Brown, Jennifer Coolidge, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Molly Shannon, Angela Zhou, Sam Richardson, Steve Monroe, Alison Brie, Max Greenfield and Alfred Molina also star.

Promising Young Woman Release Dates: December 25th, 2020 (US)…

GRANDMA (2015): For The Comedy & No Nonsense Grandmother

Grandma (2015), Julia Garner, Lily Tomlin,
Grandma (2015), Julia Garner, Lily Tomlin,

Written and directed by Paul Weitz, Grandma is a comedy/ drama that follows a troubled, no nonsense grandmother played by Lily Tomlin, as she tries to help her teenage granddaughter with a time-sensitive personal crisis.

Also starring Nat Wolff, Judy Greer, Julia Garner and Marcia Gay Harden, I enjoyed this movie as a well written and acted production. A lot of the humour comes from Tomlin’s troubled and acerbic grandma character plus the encounters she has with people. People including her family, strangers and friends.

By the end, I found myself thinking about whether the so-called ‘great mother / daughter relationship’ is actually a myth. My conclusion is that nothing is perfect. Families face challenging times together and they make a decision to reach a resolution or not. Some people face bigger challenges than others which can make resolutions less likely.

Watch Grandma because it’s a good movie, well paced and it will make you grateful for everyone that has ever been there for you in your time of great need, including those you didn’t even know you needed until you had them there.
