ARKANSAS (2020): New Trailer Starring Vince Vaughn, Liam Hemsworth, John Malkovich, Clark Duke…

In new crime/thriller Arkansas, Liam Hemsworth and Clark Duke play two criminals who work for Frog (Vince Vaughn), a drug kingpin they’ve never met. When a deal goes horribly wrong, deadly consequences and a meeting with Frog himself suddenly seem far more likely.

Co-written/directed by Clark Duke; additional key cast includes John Malkovich, Vivica A. Fox, Michael Kenneth Williams and Brad William Henke.

The main reason for my interest is John Malkovitch. The second is because this looks like a ‘reckless fools doing crime‘ type of movie that could also be fun. The kind of fun that’s reminiscent of Lock Stock And Two Smocking Barrels (1998). We’ll see what happens next month.

Patrick Muldoon, Eden Brolin, Jacob Zachar, Jeff Chase, Barry Primus, Juston Street, Jared Bankens and Adina Galupa also star.

Arkansas Release Dates: May 5th, 2020 (US) on Apple, Amazon, On Demand Platforms, Blu-ray and DVD.

ISN’T IT ROMANTIC (2019): The Thing I Liked…

Isn't It Romantic (2019), Rebel Wilson
Isn’t It Romantic (2019), Rebel Wilson

Isn’t It Romantic is a comedy/romance about Natalie, a young woman who’s become disenchanted with love and mysteriously finds herself trapped inside a romantic comedy.

The good news about director Todd Strauss-Schulson’s movie is that I did laugh and smile a few times. The beautiful city of New York and all the scenes before Natalie wakes up in the hospital are the ones I enjoyed the most. What I like about these scenes is the way Natalie made fun of romantic comedies. The disappointment then came for me when she found herself inside a romantic comedy, which turned out not to be an especially good one.

The vibrant colours and the humour in the super-romantic New York scenes were fun in parts, but after a while, it didn’t do a good job of holding my interest. Something about Isn’t it Romantic made the movie feel as though it shouldn’t have been the final draft, because if it had felt more finished, maybe I’d have been convinced by Natalie’s emotional journey and the way it was executed.

Another moment I didn’t find convincing is the actual presentation of the ‘parking lot conversion’ idea. Not that I have any actual architectural experience, but as someone who’s been in many presentations, I wanted to buy into Natalie’s idea and visualise it as a good and feasible one, but it just didn’t happen.

Watch Isn’t It Romantic if you’re so curious. The trailer is pretty fun so you may find that you enjoy the finnished film more than I did.

THE DUEL (2016): New Trailer Starring Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson…

Kieran Darcy-Smith, The Duel is a brand new western starring The Hunger Games co-stars Liam Hemsworth and Woody Harrelson.

For this particular movie, I’ve made the decision to look way beyond the highly questionable choice of trailer music and dig down deep in hopes for the best.

I’m getting a little bit of a Colonia (2016) vibe, which isn’t a bad thing. in fact – Lena, the character played by Emma Watson is my current reference for when I need to have courage in a challenging situation. ‘Be brave like Lena‘ I say to myself.

The Duel Release Dates: June 24th, 2016 (US)…

THE DRESSMAKER (2015): For The Story, Fashion, Style…

The Dressmaker (2016), Kate Winstlet

The Dressmaker is a fun revenge drama set in a rural small town in Australia. I use the word ‘fun’ because of the dialogue, characters, cinematography and the haute couture fashion and colours of the 1950s.

The character played by Hugo Weaving is the source of several laughs and a definite highlight. And, as always, the film’s star, Kate Winslet, delivers a wonderful performance. The movie’s beautiful soundtrack, courtesy of composer David Hirschfelder, is also another plus.

Directed by Jocelyn Moorhouse and based on the novel by Rosalie Ham, I say watch The Dressmaker because it’s good. Furthermore, you probably won’t be able to guess how things will unfold before they do.

Sarah Snook, Judy Davis, and Liam Hemsworth also star. Here’s the trailer for a taster.
