THE END OF OAK STREET (2026): The Things I Liked…

If it were not for my standout favourite scene in Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor’s new sci-fi thriller, The End of Oak Street, I don’t know if I’d quite regret watching the film, but I’d certainly be less enthused about it.

I enjoyed the scary moments when the central family were being hunted by dinosaurs. I also appreciated the very engaging way the story and action sequences were shot. One more highlight is the dinosaur special effects, particularly how their appearance seems to reflect the latest scientific discoveries.

My issue is that I couldn’t stop comparing director David Robert Mitchell’s film to John Krasinski’s A Quiet Place (2018). Firstly, the films have a few things in common. But for me, the latter had me far more emotionally invested. And even though I don’t recall A Quiet Place explaining the monsters that sent the central family and everyone else into survival mode, I didn’t feel short-changed. With Oak Street, however, the ending wasn’t quite as satisfying. For me, it felt too much like an ‘easy solve.’

As for the standout scene that will probably never leave me, it’s a brilliantly captured moment of dramatic irony that creates almost unbearable suspense. It’s a scene that had me with my feet off the ground, knees towards my chest, watching the action through my jacket. I’m going to refer to said scene as ‘the slithering’, which you’ll understand once you see it.

Having watched all the trailers for Oak Street, one would think I’d realise that the film is not set in the present day. Alas, I did not.

Watch The End of Oak Street if you’re curious. I may like A Quiet Place more, but Mitchell’s film still has its merits.

THE END OF OAK STREET (2026): New Trailer From Ewan McGregor, Anne Hathaway, Christian Convery, Maisy Stella…

Read my spoiler-free movie review of The End of Oak Street (2026).

Anne Hathaway, Christian Convery, Ewan McGregor and Maisy Stella’s sci-fi/mystery/adventure, The End of Oak Street has a great looking final trailer.

Director David Robert Mitchell’s story follows a family as they fight to survive after a cosmic event transports their suburban neighbourhood to the very distant past.

This premise right here represents the kind of predicament that’s so terrifying to me to think about that, if asked, I wouldn’t ever say it out loud for fear that uttering the words would make it more likely to come true. Regardless of whether it’s even scientifically possible.

I love the characters for the actors involved. I’m especially excited to see Hathaway running through the streets in full-on action-woman survival mode. The thematic similarities to  A Quiet Place (2018) are even stronger after this trailer.

I’m really going to have to negotiate with myself about seeing this. I want to, but I also don’t want to be screaming in the cinema as much as this is likely to make me.

Maisy Stella, Andrea Frankle, Hudson Meek, Pilot Bunch, Denitra Isler, Chris Coy, P.J. Byrne, Bethany Anne Lind, Bethany Anne Lind, Emily Kuroda, Jordan Alexa Davis and Savanna Renee also star.

THE END OF OAK STREET (2026): New Trailer Starring Anne Hathaway, Maisy Stella, Christian Convery, Ewan McGregor…

The newest trailer for The End of Oak Street, the David Robert Mitchell-directed sci-fi/mystery/adventure, starring Anne Hathaway, Ewan McGregor and Christian Convery is here, and it looks good.

It’s official, dinosaurs have somehow joined humans on planet Earth, and our chances of survival aren’t looking great. Nevertheless, I’m looking forward to seeing how we end up surviving. After all, this is the movies.

Bring on the adventure, I say!

THE END OF OAK STREET (2026): New Trailer Starring Anne Hathaway, Ewan McGregor, Maisy Stella, Christian Convery…

Read my spoiler-free movie review of The End of Oak Street (2026).

Produced by Star Wars director J.J. Abrams, and directed by David Robert Mitchell, The End of Oak Street is a new sci-fi/mystery/adventure starring Anne Hathaway, Christian Convery, Ewan McGregor and Maisy Stella.

The story follows a family of four as they navigate their new surroundings after a cosmic event transports their suburban neighbourhood to someplace unknown.

A thing of nightmares? My nightmares? Yes. Specifically, the nightmare in which I learn that humans suddenly have to share planet Earth with dinosaurs. And not dinosaur descendants, the birds, but actual dinosaurs.

It hasn’t been confirmed that that’s the nature of what’s happened in this trailer, but it sure does look like it. I’m also getting A Quiet Place (2018) vibes, which I’m not mad about.

Since this is a sci-fi/mystery/thriller/adventure and not a horror film, I should be able to watch it.

Maisy Stella, Chris Coy, P.J. Byrne, Bethany Anne Lind, Bethany Anne Lind, Emily Kuroda, Andrea Frankle, Hudson Meek, Pilot Bunch, Denitra Isler, Jordan Alexa Davis and Savanna Renee also star.

MY OLD ASS (2024): The Things I Liked…

My Old Ass (2024), Aubrey Plaza, Maisy Stella, Amazon MGM Studios
My Old Ass (2024), Aubrey Plaza, Maisy Stella, Amazon MGM Studios

Admittedly, there were a few moments within the first 20 minutes of My Old Ass, Aubrey Plaza and Maisy Stella’s latest movie, where I thought: ‘What kind of silliness is this?’ But, thankfully, I made it through what happens in the woods, and writer/director Megan Park’s coming-of-age comedy/drama/romance about love, family and life soon finds its rhythm and cleverly lands its message.

The story focuses on Stella’s character, Elliott, who’s about to leave for college in a few weeks, however, not before a mushroom trip in the woods with friends – one that leads to a change in focus for the rest of summer.

If you’re very wise, like me, you too may figure out the central mystery in the story before it’s solved/revealed. But don’t worry if you do, because it won’t detract from your experience. Instead, it’ll likely make you feel any feelings that arise more deeply. For My Old Ass is relatable on several levels and handles its subject matter – the transition from youth to adulthood, but with a special twist well.

Additionally, Plaza is great in her role. Stella is good too, and, she has notably beautiful teeth.

That last point isn’t exactly a reason to watch. Nevertheless, it is undeniable.
