LUCY IN THE SKY (2019): New Trailer From Natalie Portman, Jon Hamm, Dan Stevens, Zazie Beetz…

Lucy In The Sky (2019), Natalie Portman, Fox Searchlight Pictures

John Hamm, Natalie Portman, Zazie beetz and Dan Stevens are the stars of new sci-fi / drama Lucy In The Sky.

Directed by Noah Hawley, Lucy In The Sky is the story of Lucy, a female astronaut who begins to slowly unravel and lose touch with reality, following a life-changing space mission.

The cast is good and I’ll put aside my slight fatigue when it comes to space movies because I’m curious about Portman’s character’s emotional and psychological journey.

Nick Offerman, Tig Notaro, Ellen Burstyn, Colman Domingo, Christopher Darga, Jeremiah Birkett and Stella Edwards also star.

Starring Natalie Portman and written / directed Brady Corbet, Vox Lux is a new drama / musical about the unusual set of circumstances that end up bringing unexpected success to a pop star.

Jude Law, Christopher Abbott, Willem Dafoe and Jennifer Ehle also star.

I’m drawn to what looks like the humour and kookiness of this movie. I also just want to see the talented Portman perform in a role I didn’t exactly expect her to play.

Vox Lux Release Dates: December 7th, 2018 (2018)…

ANNIHILATION (2018): New Trailer From Natalie Portman, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Oscar Isaac, Gina Rodriguez…

Annihilation (2018), Natalie Portman
Annihilation (2018), Natalie Portman

Annihilation is the latest movie starring Natalie Portman, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Oscar Isaac and Gina Rodriguez. Adapted from novelist Jeff VanderMeer’s best seller of the same name, Portman plays a biologist on a dangerous secret expedition where the laws of nature don’t apply…

There are a number reasons I want to watch this. 1.) Acting queen and all round smart woman, Natalie Portman. 2.) Alex Garland, writer and director of my favourite Alicia Vikander movie, Ex Machina (2015)  – I’m still fantasising about a sequel that I know will very likely never happen.) 3.) This trailer is great! It made me so happy that I punctuated watching it with the words ‘Yeah baby!’ and the thought, ‘This is what I’ve been waiting for.’ I’m so ready. I just hope it isn’t too similar to Arrival (2016), a movie I’m still yet to watch.

Tessa Thompson, David Gyasi, Cosmo Jarvis and Sonoya Mizuno also star.

Annihilation Release Dates: February 23rd, 2018 (US & UK)…

SONG TO SONG (2017): New Trailer From Natalie Portman, Rooney Mara, Michael Fassbender, Ryan Gosling…

Celebrated filmmaker Terrence Malick has a new movie starring Natalie Portman, Rooney Mara, Michael Fassbender and Ryan Gosling. Song To Song is about two intersecting love triangles set against the music scene in Austin, Texas…

I want this to be great because I’m a fan of everyone involved. I especially want this to be better than Malick’s previous movie Knight Of Cups (2015), which I’m yet to see but I know the reception wasn’t great. On another note, I’m going to guess that both trailers were edited by the very same person, probably.

Song To Song Release Dates: March 17th, (2017); 2017 (UK)…

Natalie Portman is First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy, a woman fighting through the pain of grief following the assassination of her husband…

Teaser trailer

Trailer 1

I want to like the teaser trailer but I’m annoyed that I have no idea what she says at the end of the sentence ‘There was a…’ Trailer 1 is brilliant. So beautifuly put together. Well done, trailer maker.

My favourite Portman performance is still her great work in Black Swan (2010). Will that change after Jackie? I’m thinking not but we’ll see. I don’t really know much about Jackie Kennedy except that she was a style icon and her and her husband were much loved. I guess it’s time to learn.

Directed by Pablo Larraín; Peter Sarsgaard, Greta Gerwig and Billy Crudup also star.

Jackie Release Dates: December 2nd, 2016 (US)…

A TALE OF LOVE & DARKNESS (2016), New Trailer From Natalie Portman & Gilad Kahana

A Tale Of Love & Darkness (2016), Gilad Kahana, Natalie Portman
A Tale Of Love & Darkness (2016), Gilad Kahana, Natalie Portman

A Tale Of Love & Darkness is the new drama starring / directed by Natalie Portman and based on the memoir of Amos Oz. Oz is a journalist, writer and advocate of a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The film tells the story of Oz who grew up in Jerusalem in the years before Israeli statehood with Arieh…

The subject matter is interesting and I’m a Natalie Portman fan which is why I’ll watch. However, I’m not sure if this is going to be as good as I’d love it to be. Not to judge a book by its cover of course, but this trailer’s  edit and textual interruptions (not the subtitles) in an ill-advised font has left quite a bit to be desired.

I was hoping to be more excited by Portman’s directorial debut than I am. May this be better than Jane Got A Gun (2016), the last movie I watched that starred Natalie Portman.

A Tale Of Love & Darkness Release Dates: August 19th, 2016 (US)…

Jane Got A Gun (2015), Natalie Portman, Joel Edgerton

Directed by Gavin O’Connor, Natalie Portman’s latest, Jane Got A Gun is a western. Something you may have guessed from the title…

It looks like the movie will be good especially with a promising cast that also includes Joel Egerton, Rodrigo Santoro and Noah Emmerich.

May it be as impressive as True Grit (2010) because that movie is fantastic!

Jane Got A Gun Release Date(s): January 29th, 2016 (US); May 20th, 2016 (UK)

KNIGHT OF CUPS (2015): The Trailer That Keeps on Giving

Knight Of Cups (2015), Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett
Knight Of Cups (2015), Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett

If you’ve glanced upon a few of my posts, you may know that I adore the work of Cate Blanchett. But what I’m yet to properly express is my appreciation for the talents of Christian Bale. To talk about that I need another post.

Today however, I sat at my computer as usual, hopeful for some new trailer delights – when Knight of Cups (2015) happened.

First I saw director Terrence Malick’s name, and like a good and loyal canine, up my ears went. Then Christian Bale and Cate Blanchett’s faces appeared. (Yes and yes!) By this point I was sure that my excitement had peaked. But then…

Natalie Portman! I haven’t seen my dear ‘Lady Portman’ in something amazing since Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan (2010). So, right now happiness is most definitely me.

The idea that I’ll be able to maintain any semblance of calm on the day I go see Knight of Cups is very, very wrong. Until then though, I have this…

It’s not particularly the best / most thrilling trailer I’ve ever seen, but the talent… Oh, the talent!
