Jamie Dornan, Anthony Mackie and Katie Aselton are the stars of Synchronic, a new sci-fi/horror/drama about two New Orleans paramedics, whose lives are ripped apart. All after they encounter a series of horrific deaths linked to a designer drug with bizarre, otherworldly effects.

Directed by  Justin Benson and  Aaron Moorhead; additional key cast includes Ally Ioannides, Bill Oberst Jr., Natasha Tina Liu…

This looks dark and quite promising. Also, I’m sure I’m not the only one getting Project Power (2020) vibes. I only wish that there wasn’t so much text interrupting all the clips in this trailer. Am I right or am I right?

Martin Bats Bradford, Devyn A. Tyler, Lawrence Turner, Sam Malone, Aaron Groben, Betsy Holt and Shane Brady also star.

The Banker (2019), Anthony Mackie, Nicholas Hoult, Apple TV+

Directed by George Nolfi, The Banker is a new drama based on the true stories of Bernard Garrett (Anthony Mackie) and Joe Morris (Samuel L. Jackson).

Garrett, a revolutionary businessman was one one of the first African American bankers in the United States. Both Garrett and Morris dared to take on the racially oppressive establishment of the 1960s by helping other African Americans pursue the American dream.

Additional key cast includes Nia Long, Nicholas Hoult and Jessie T. Usher.

I like the idea of Mackie, Jackson and Hoult on screen together. Looking forward to seeing their characters play the game and win.

Colm Meaney, Paul Ben-Victor, Gregory Alan Williams, Michael Harney, Taylor Black, James DuMont and Rhoda Griffis also star.

POINT BLANK (2019): The Things I Liked…

Point Blank, a new Netflix thriller about an emergency room nurse who teams up with an injured murder suspect to save his pregnant wife, isn’t a terrible film. Directed by Joe Lynch; starring Anthony Mackie and Frank Grillo, I admit to having a little more fun watching it than I expected.

In addition to the overall execution of the story being adequate enough for me to watch through to the very end, a key highlight was the comic relief courtesy of Markice Moore’s unexpected character; a gangster boss who just happens to have movie making aspirations. Also, seeing Marcia Gay Harden in a role we don’t often see women play and her doing a great job proved memorable.

Lastly, the onscreen chemistry between Mackie and Grillo is OK. It’s certainly not as ‘sizzling’ as that between Michael Peña and Jake Gyllenhaal in End of Watch (2012); or Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg in 2013’s 2 Guns, but those guys are really very special cases; I’m convinced of it.

Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, Marcia Gay Harden and Teyonah Parris are the stars of new Joe Lynch-directed action/thriller Point Blank.

In a race against time, rival criminals, renegade cops, and an emergency room nurse (Mackie) must team up with an injured murder suspect to save his pregnant wife.

I’ll give this a chance because of Mackie, especially. Also Netflix movies seem to slowly be getting better.

I admit that there’s actually one specific point in this trailer that captured my imagination more than anything else – and that’s the gorgeous purple hue of Mackie’s outfit. You can see it from approximately 0:10 into the trailer.

Christian Cooke, Boris McGiver, Ming Wang, Carly Tamborski, Harrison Sheckler, Markice Moore and Lea Hutton Beasmore also star.

Directed by Jonathan Helpert; Anthony Mackie, Margaret Qualley and Danny Huston are the stars of IO. 

IO is a new sci-fi movie about one of the last survivors on a post-cataclysmic Earth. A place where a young scientist is dedicated to finding a way for humans to adapt and survive, rather than abandon their planet. Unexpectedly, she begins to question her decision following the arrival of another survivor.

I’m intrigued by the premise and I like Mackie, especially ever since I saw his great work in The Hurt Locker (2008).

Then there’s the fact that the last time I put my trust in Netflix and sat down to watch one of their sci-fi movies, namely Extinction (2018), I found myself wanting. I wish my expectations were higher with this; nevertheless, I move forward with hope.
