Read my spoiler-free movie review of Journey’s End (2017).

Directed by Saul Dibb; starring Paul Bettany, Sam Claflin and Asa Butterfield, Journey’s End is a war movie set in a dugout in Aisne, France in 1918.

Journey’s End is a story in which a group of British soldiers who are awaiting their fate while led by a mentally disintegrating young officer named Stanhope (Claflin).

I’m interested because this trailer reminds me of a somewhat similar war movie I enjoyed more than expected. Namely, The Siege of Jadotville (2016), I’m onlso intrigued by the ‘mentally disintegrating young officer’ angle.

Stephen Graham, Toby Jones, Tom Sturridge and Theo Barklem-Biggs also star.

Journey’s End Release Dates: February 2nd 2018 (UK)…

MY COUSIN RACHEL (2017): Gorgeous Cinematography & Starring Sam Claflin, Rachel Weisz, Holliday Grainger…

Movies are, when done well, a beautiful amalgamation of all the arts; music, photography, design, dialogue, all of it. Starring Sam Claflin, Rachel Weisz and Holliday Grainger, the trailer for My Cousin Rachel looks like a very promising cocktail of all the above.

Featuring great use of Ursine Vulpine‘s cover of Chris Isaac’s ‘Wicked Game,’ and imagery so engaging that I was forced to sit up and pay attention, I very badly want this movie to be good. So good that it lives up to the expectations of all those who read and loved the best-selling Daphne du Maurier novel on which it’s based.

If you haven’t already seen the trailer, work your way through the following beautiful images, and there the trailer shall be, at the end.

My Cousin Rachel, the latest movie from Rachel Weisz, Sam Claflin, Holliday Grainger and Iain Glen is based on the best selling novel by Daphne Du Maurier.

It’s the story of an Englishman intent on revenge on his cousin Rachel. However, matters get complicated as he finds himself falling under her spell.

How could I not tune in with such a reliable cast, and such promising cinematography?

The beautiful song in this trailer is a version of Chris Isaac’s brilliant ‘Wicked Game.’ I believe this version is by Ursine Vulpine ft. Annaca. I say, good choice trailer maker!

THEIR FINEST (2017): New Trailer From Sam Claflin, Gemma Aterton, Bill Nighy…

Their Finest (2017), Sam Claflin, Gemma Aterton
Their Finest (2017), Sam Claflin, Gemma Aterton

Sam Claflin, Gemma Aterton and Bill Nighy are the stars of Their Finest, a Lone Schefig-directed drama/comedy/romance set during World War II.

The story focuses on a British film crew tasked with making a propaganda film after the Blitzkrieg to help boost morale.

I’ll be tuning in for the comedy, and to witness the sexism of the times. I’m not quite in the mood for the romance just now, no doubt that’s going to change, I’m certain of it.

Their Finest Release Dates: March 24th, 2017 (US); April 21st, 2017 (UK)…

ME BEFORE YOU (2016): The Things I Liked…

Me Before You (2016), Emilia Clarke, Sam Claflin
Me Before You (2016), Emilia Clarke, Sam Claflin

I enjoyed  Me Before You as one of those films you don’t mind watching even though you know what’s going to happen. The entire cast which includes Charles Dance and Vanessa Kirby, along with the leads, Sam Claflin and Emilia Clarke performed well. No one portrayal stood out for me more than the others.

A favourite moment that I remember fondly is the gift giving scene at the birthday do. The beautiful moment Emilia’s character opens hers and all that it means is just great. One other highlight has to be the parting words to the hostess, Sharon, right after the horse racing.

I’d heard plenty before I sat down to watch this movie. Things  about how sad the story really is – especially considering what happens in  the end. It’s definitely sad but I also had fun. A few tears were shed but nothing major; especially since usually, I’m quite the ‘boohooer’ (a new word I just made up).

If you like a good romantic movie, watch Me Before You because it’s not a bad one. Another reason to watch is to help one’s understanding of those in situations similar to that of Claflin’s character. I for one agree with his freedom to decide.

Happy Film Loving,
