SPIRAL (2021): New Trailer Starring Chris Rock, Samuel L. Jackson, Max Minghella, Morgan David Jones…

The book of Saw has a terrifying new chapter.

Staring Chris Rock, Samuel L. Jackson, Max Minghella and Morgan David Jones; crime/horror Spiral is about a criminal mastermind’s unleashing of a twisted form of justice.

I’m intrigued because I want to see Rock do well in this lead role. And I like the idea of one of my favourite comics sharing screen time with Jackson.

However, the reason I may not see Spiral includes the fact that I’m yet to watch a single movie in the Saw series; mainly on account of horror not being my favourite genre. Nevertheless, that doesn’t mean I’m not excited for fans of Saw.

Ali Johnson, Dan Petronijevic, Edie Inksetter, Leila Leigh, Max Minghella, Christopher Tai, John Tokatlidis, Genelle Williams, and Leonidas Castrounis also star.

Spiral Release Dates: May 14th, 2021 (US); May 21st, 2021 (UK)…

AMEND – THE FIGHT FOR AMERICA (2021): New Trailer For Documentary About The 14th Amendment, and Starring Will Smith, Diane Lane, Joshua Jackson…

Amend - The Fight for America (2021), Will Smith, Netflix

Hosted by Will Smith, Amend – The Fight for America is a new series that offers a look at the evolving, often lethal, fight for equal rights in America; through the lens of the US Constitution’s 14th Amendment.

Created by Robe Imbriano and Tom Yellin; additional key cast includes Diane Lane, Mahershala Ali, Laverne Cox, Joshua Jackson, Samuel L. Jackson and Aja Naomi King.

I couldn’t help but think of Ava DuVernay’s 13th (2016) as this played. For it’s a very informative and useful documentary about the history of racial inequality in the the United States prison system.

I’m not expecting this to be quite as eye-opening as 13th, but I am looking forward to learning a thing or two, and seeing the various ways all the famous people involved will be contributing.

Randall Park, Pedro Pascal, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Bobby Cannavale, Rafael Casal, Whitney Cummings, Sterling K. Brown, and many more also star.

Amend – The Fight for America Release Dates: February 17th, 2021, Netflix, (US)…

DEATH TO 2020 (2020): The Thing I Liked…

Death To 2020 (2020), Cristin Milioti, Netflix

My favourite thing about Netflix’s Death to 2020, a comedic retrospective of the year that was 2020 is the phrase ‘Prime Ministerial scarecrow, Boris Johnson.’ I laugh every time I re-read it, because it’s true.

There’s certainly a handful of more amusing moments within the show, whether it’s courtesy of Samuel L. Jackson, Hugh Grant, Lisa Kudrow, Leslie Jones, Cristin Milioti or several others. Nevertheless, one of my key issues with Death to 2020 relates to how disjointed it feels; even with the narration used to bring everything together.

Furthermore, the show felt a lot like a less amusing version of Trevor Noah’s The Daily Show; even though I’ve only ever experienced The Daily Show via the best clips on their Youtube Channel.

Unfortunately, Death to 2020 also had me nodding off to sleep a few times. A reality I can blame on the above reasons, and the fact that my favourite comics already helped me laugh at 2020, a little closer to when much of the madness was happening.

I say give Death to 2020 a chance if you’re curious. You may not be as avid a consumer of current comedy as myself.

Happy Film Loving and a fantastic 2021!
